Fellow Seattle Gamers!

Post by GirlGamer55 »

Maybe this isn't the place to post it, if so sorry, please move me to the correct spot.

After much deliberation I've come to the conclusion that I need friends. Not just any friends but gaming friends. Mainly because my BF isn't a console gamer, and my parents could care less about gaming so I have no one to talk to and share my love of gaming with. It's very lonely.

I've tried a few times to find fellow gamers in my area (not really Seattle but close enough), via Craigslist (NEVER AGAIN) and another gaming forum that shall not be named (full of nagging jerks who can't leave well enough alone). Both times blew up in my face so I'll try again because I really do need someone to talk to.

Now to get off on the right foot, I should point out that I have Aspergers so if anything I say comes off as rude, I might not actually be trying to be rude...I just don't know how to phrase things..."nicely". I'm learning slowly but you'll have to excuse me sometimes.

So what I'm looking for is someone between 20-35 (younger need not apply, older..perhaps), male or female, and just likes gaming as much as I do. It would be nice to find someone who liked retro games and not just idk Xbox or something. I'd also love if they're as big a nerd as I am lol.

I like anime, manga, geeky things, zombies, MLP, South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy...so on and so forth. I like sci fi stuff to but i'm not a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars or Dr. Who (actually I hate Dr. Who). I don't care for D&D or anything like that...including Magic the Gathering and other games like that. Not big on comic books...other then Watchmen. I do like some super hero movies though.

I am willing to give some things a try like Star Wars and D&D...I'd need someone to teach me about D&D because it just sounds very confusing.

Other then that I'm mainly a PC gamer (but my true love is in the retro consoles), I have a few mental problems besides Aspergers (which if I do find some friends, I'll be quite up front with these..just so you know what to expect from me) and I am a very nice person once you get to know me, I'm very loyal and helpful or so I've been told...

Ah right one more thing while the title said Seattle gamers (just to weed out the people not in our state) I'm looking for people more in the Kent/Federal Way/Auburn areas. Seattle is a bit of a trip to take when you don't drive lol..

So if your in those areas, think you could be a match or what have you, pm me or post here...which ever you like. I'd rather you pm me so we could get to know eachother more one on one.

Thanks :3

I'll be honest, this is kinda weird.

It's not so much the looking-for-people-to-hang-out-with part ... but more so the qualifications-for-people-to-be-acceptable-to-hang-out-with part ...

If you want more interaction with people who like the same things as you, this is the community to do it in. You might want to consider getting more involved in more threads or even popping into IRC.

A nice way to meet new people whom could become friends, or at least acquaintances, is to attend community gaming events. The retro expos are coming up, and those are usually filled with level headed folks whom love games.

I didn't think it was that odd..I just want friends who are into gaming, are my age or near it and sort of like nerdy/geeky stuff.

I'm avoiding the cons/expos...being near so many people freaks me out.

I don't think you were trying to weed out certain people just because they didn't have the same interests as you, I just think you got a little carried away with the descriptive stuff. A short and to the point message would probably be more effective:

"Hey everyone I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this but I am looking for some gamer friends in the Seattle area. My boyfriend isn't into the same games I am so I'd like to forge some new friendships around here. I'm pretty nerdy, though I'm not in to everything just like most people. PM me if you'd like to chat it up about video games and if you're in the area. Like I said I'd love to talk to some people I could eventually meet in real life perhaps, and play games of course!"

FYI: I have Aspergers if that makes a difference to anyone"

I think something like that is a little less overwhelming.

Yeah, I got that vibe as well. I actually have Asperger's as well but I don't feel the need to make a big deal out of it, because otherwise it's a little TMI.

I thought the post was fine. Good luck gg but also be careful - a post like that might open you up to some uncouth things. Most members on this site are top notch - but we can't foresee who might be reading and try to meet up with you. Be smart, please.

All of you calling her post weird need to just stop. Either you're interested or not, she doesn't sound like she's asking advice. It saves a lot of time telling a broad amount of people about herself and interest in one post then responding individually the same stuff via pm over and over. Not all people with asperger's are the same and it especially affects the sexes differently.

@GirlGamer55
Good luck finding a gaming friend. I was thinking of moving to Seattle or Portland with my partner soon and if I do choose Seattle I will defiantly pm you. I know there are quite a bit of Seattle area retro gamers so hopefully it won't be too hard. Metaljesus is a member on this site and I am sure he knows a lot of gamers in your area. I hope it works out for you.

Exactly thank you. My point was just to tell everyone right up front what I figured was the basics. And your right on the Asperger's part, some people with it can cope with it better then others. I don't cope with it well, thus I point it out because when I talk to people I can come off as being quite rude when I'm really not trying to be. Same thing happens when I post on forums...that's what I meant by I can't phrase things "nicely".

I just want to stop a flame war from happening before it starts, the last gaming forum I was on I came off as rude and even though I was explaining why I was coming off as rude, no one listened. It blew up in my face and I don't feel like going through that again.

And yes I know of MetalJesus..I don't think I'd get along with him or his "group" of friends.

Yeah, I don't get what people thought was weird about OP. If I was in Seattle I'd totally hit you up.

But MJ is right, be careful, plenty of weirdos on the interwebz.

Also, I would totally hang out with MetalJesus. That guy totally rocks!
