PSP modding help needed

Post by GirlGamer55 »

I bought a PSP 2001 (not slim...I think) not to long ago. The UMD drive is busted so it seemed like a perfect thing to mod. Well it's not because I'm having some odd issues that I can't seem to find any info about. I posted this on another gaming forum but have yet to get any help so I thought I'd return here to ask for help.

Here's the post from there copy and pasted:

Well I'm stumped I'm following this one since I'm not sure I have a "slim": http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-softm ... sp.293978/

And I did the 6.20 stuff up till #4 "After the PSP restarts, run the 6.20 PRO Permanent Patch." I did that and it gave me an error message "This game cannot be started. The data is corrupted."

I even tried another way and got the same error message using that other one. I know I have 6.20 firmware..the PSP says so, so why isn't this working?

Also maybe related but my PSP didn't restart, it shuts off after step 3. I just guessed that I had to manually restart it which I did but...maybe thats why the 6.20 PRO Permanent Patch isn't working?

That site appears to be out of date.

Please refer to the guides listed here:

Many of the members of this forum have used it, and swear by it's usefulness.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

The above link should help. Depending on your motherboard, a permanent CFW may not be an option; I've not found having a non-permament CFW a problem with my 3000.

Also, what are you using for memory? Actual Pro Duo sticks or SD cards with an adapter? The latter can sometimes cause issues.

And yeah, certain 200x PSPs can't be done permanently. It's not really a huge deal, if you can't permanent it you literally just have to run 1 file whenever you turn it on from a FULL power down (not the sleep-mode power down that it normally goes to).

You might even want to update it to 6.6 instead of 6.2, there's really no reason not to at this point.

Good luck, it's a great system.

Er...It's a SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo? So the real thing?

Also using that link i'm stuck on the first step...I put the 6.60 update in the PSP folder but when I go to run the update off of my stick it doesn't find it.

Yep, sounds like the real deal sticks to me. Should be good there.

The official firmware files should end up in a PSP/UPDATE folder. The CFW files should go in the PSP/GAME folder. This often causes the issue where they don't show up.

GirlGamer try this it may work for you....................

when you turn on your PSP and get into XMB hold Select and let go. This will bring up VSH Menu go down to UMD ISO MODE and select M33 driver.

Exit and shutdown your PSP then turn back on , after that try and load a game

^I think she's at a point where the CFW isn't yet installed, so the VSH Menu wouldn't be of much help for this.

So I should put the EBOOT.PBP file in PSP/UPDATE? I made an update folder but it didn't work...

Yep, the OFW EBOOT.PBP should be located in PSP/UPDATE. You can just extract the UPDATE folder that comes in the archive you downloaded straight to the PSP folder. It should work then, at least as far as getting your OFW up to 6.60.
