Happy 25th Birthday, Nintendo Game Boy!

Post by samsonlonghair »

Nintendo launched the Game Boy on April 21, 1989, though it wasn't available on American shores until the following July. I powered up my original Game Boy today to celebrate. He still works flawlessly.

I actually got one of these in 1989. It was AMAZING back then. This little device changed the entire concept of how we can play video games... and paved the way for the awesome handhelds we have today.

First game I got for it was Super Mario Land... and that game is still fun all these years later.

My top three favorite GB games:

Gargoyle's Quest

Trip World

Bionic Commando

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Mine still works too, love that thing

My favorites as a kid were Operation C, Final Fantasy Legend II, Mickey's Dangerous Chase and Roger Clemens MVP Baseball. And of course Tetris.

I swear I could play Tetris every day of my life and never grow tired of that game. When I was a boy I was stuck in airports by myself waiting for my connecting flight. My Game Boy allowed me to pass the time playing Tetris and Wario Land.

25 years! Hoo boy we are all getting oooold. The stand out game to me for the Gameboy is Faceball 2000. Rereleased on the SNES, but the original has the better music.

There is another US exclusive only to Gameboy using a SHMUP spaceship and Tetris blocks, forgot the name though.

Hey a Google search turned up this!

I'm sorry, I'm to busy playing it loud to hear all the dullness of the gray Game Boy.
