Saturn 3D USB

Post by enigmaxtreme »

I'm wanting to use my Saturn 3D Controller on my computer, but reading the reviews on Amazon for the two main adapters

http://www.amazon.com/SS-Controller-Ada ... saturn+usb

http://www.amazon.com/Sega-Saturn-Contr ... saturn+usb

It appears they don't support 3D, can anyone tell me otherwise?

They do not support the 3D protocol. None of the standard USB adapters you can buy through regular means do (old or new). There is only one commercially available homebrew USB adapter that can do it. SKUNX makes custom-made USB adapters he calls "Blissbox" that support any game controllers from any game console (Minus light-guns and some very obscure ones he can't find). You can order a single-input Sega Saturn adapter from him for around $35 iirc. I've ordered 3 of his adapters (all single input) and they work flawlessly (2 Saturn 3D, and a Gamecube Wavebird). He specializes in huge multi-controller monstrosities that support every controller you have, so the finished single-controller adapter box is a little bulky, but it's worth every penny. IMO, the Saturn 3D controller is the most comfortable, best designed controller ever made.

Since he published his Staurn 3D protocol reverse engineering findings around 2009, others have found it as well, or used his findings, but I don't know of any one else that will make that adapter for you on commission.

I use this guy's adapters. His Saturn USB supports the 3D pad perfectly.

Oh cool. SKUNX's adapters are based directly off of Raphael's. I didn't know he'd added in 3D support.
