So, If My Processor is 0.3 GHZ Too Slow But...

Post by marlowe221 »

There is a TBS game coming out soon. My computer meets all system requirements (recommended requirements, even) except my CPU is 2.3 ghz and they require 2.6 ghz.

How bad will it run? It's a turn-based game so 60 FPS is not exactly required.

Any help?
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

Want: Games!!!

I'd imagine that you should expect to see some stuttering or slowness when moves are executed, but the game would be quite playable otherwise.

The freq of your CPU does'nt really matter. Does it specify which CPU is recommended and what CPU do you have.

It might recommend 3ghz Pent 4, but a 1ghz i5 would run several times faster than it.

300Mhz isn't going to matter that much.

The way they get those numbers is silly anyway, they're not terribly accurate; they're very general.

I've played games that had requirements well above computers specs I've had in the past and they played just fine.

Yeah, the type of CPU matters a lot.

Full pc specs and game title?

Like the others I use to play games on specs far below, it just depends on the game. Heck I use to have xp running on a P2 266mhz, and I would play UT99 on top of that - at sub 10FPS in Software Rendering. That player was the Blocky Champion.

On a Pentium Pro and a Voodoo 3 that game ran as smooth as trilinear-filtered butter!

It seems to me that in the 1990s, the speed of your processor (in MHz) made a significant difference. In the 2000s, the rise of hyper-threading and multi-core processors make the number cycles of your processor less significant. Today that difference is even less significant. For instance, a 2.6 GHz i7 has four cores with eight threads. (Assuming that you're running software designed to take advantage of these features) This is a better processor than a Pentium 4 running 3.0 GHz.

In other words, the number of cycles unto itself no longer designates the power of your processor.
