So some sites, like Hardcore Gaming report that the game does not use the RAM cart (and can't utilize it) while other sites (including Racketboy) list it in the compatible games for the 1MB cart.
Is the game supported? It is a pretty average port with lots of slowdowns, but if the RAM cart can be used I would love to play it like that. There are no options in the menu, etc. I don't notice even the slightly reduction is slowdowns with the cart in the slot.
Is there some button combo to activate the RAM cart or something or is it often misquoted as a supported game?
Any help.
Garou Densetsu 3 (Fatal Fury 3) use the Ram Cart? (Saturn)
Re: Garou Densetsu 3 (Fatal Fury 3) use the Ram Cart? (Satur
Okay, so I don't own this, so I really can't say for sure...but..
I'm going with NOT COMPATIBLE w/Ram Carts.
Reasons:
1. No release of FF3 with a ram cart (almost every, if not all, SNK game that can use it also has a boxed retail version that comes with the 1MB cart).
2. Very sub-par port of the game, from what I hear. It makes sense why if it has no ram benefits.
3. Does any other SNK game have an option to use Ram or not to use? There's a couple Capcom games that do, but not SNK.
4. I trust this guy more that most Saturn Fans and he says no Ram:
http://www.segagagadomain.com/saturn7/g ... setsu3.htm
5. No indication or mention of Ram Cart requirement on the Back CD case
--okay, so I can't read Japanese, but I DO know how to examine similarities on my games that DO require the Cart (SSIV, Metal Slug, KOF96/97, etc). I know the common line that refers the the ram cart (one even spells it "RAM" and has the same info of Kanji/Katakana after/around it.
The line is NOT on the FF3 back case (just looked up the case art and compared).
So in my understanding, I think it is misquoted.
FF3 on Saturn is just a rough "No Ram" port of the game.
Can anyone confirm or deny? I'll wager the TC's life that I'm right
...just another lost soul...
Re: Garou Densetsu 3 (Fatal Fury 3) use the Ram Cart? (Satur
Thanks for the reply.
I didn't think it had, but after playing it and seeing how choppy it was at times I looked the game up and quite a few sources said it used the RAM, which made me think perhaps English reviews are by people who do not know you can enable the RAM cart, thus the performance is low.
I know some games, like Cotton 2, don't require a RAM cartridge, but if you have one inserted it will say "Extra Ram Found" on the menu, etc. Was thinking maybe there was a botton combo you had to hold while booting or something.
All wishful thinking really, however it is funny how many sites / forums report that it can use a RAM cart.
EDIT: The 1MB ram cart came out in Japan 20/09/1996, Fatal Fury 3 came out on the Saturn on 28/06/1996, so it launched before the RAM cart did. So doubtful.

That's another good observation; and probably the best proof of all.emwearz wrote:EDIT: The 1MB ram cart came out in Japan 20/09/1996, Fatal Fury 3 came out on the Saturn on 28/06/1996, so it launched before the RAM cart did. So doubtful.
If there is a code to enable the RAM cart, it's a very well kept secret. I've done my share of reading on the NEO-GEO ports out there.
Anyways, I never bothered to get it for Saturn, as the collection on PS2 is quite good (even though my US copy doesn't allow the Super Desperation Moves; but then regular desp. moves are good enough for me).

I got it for $2 delivered, can't knock back any JPN Saturn game for that price.
