Depths of Peril

Post by philipofmacedon »

Recently I've had some good fun with Soldak's Depths of Peril. It's an isometric Diabloesque hack and slash game. I'm a huge fan of the original Diablo but no game of the same has gripped me since. Depth's of Peril doesn't have the same atmosphere and production value as Diablo but it's still fun.

What I like about the game is the sense of urgency. You are the head of a guild which is competing with four other guilds. Your ultimate goal is to destroy the other guilds or become allied with some and destroy the rest. When that big unique monster appears or treasure hunt begins you must race out and take care of business. Often I find myself clearing an area and suddenly forced to teleport away to deal with an emergency. Sometimes it's almost too frantic and I get frustrated I can't complete every quest but it's better than it being a snoozefest.

The demo only lets a character advance to level 7 but it's enough to get a taste. I haven't decided to buy it yet, but I'm tempted.
