GBA RGB mod

Post by Anapan »

It's cheaper and slightly easier than I thought it would be:
RetroRGB mod instructions
Ebay - Innovation GBA TV Converter

Better (IMO) than a Gamecube Gameboy Player since it's integer scaled rather than bilinear (tho sadly the picture's 480i). I can't wait for my parts to arrive so I can do the mod. The seller has free shipping in the United States too.

You will be disappointed. I was ages ago.

Alternative hard-wire guide is on my site, I worked it out quite a while back : http://www.bacman.co.uk/home/handhelds-gba/

Problem is the GBA Converter outputs trying to adjust for the scale of the output rather than having a fixed output, and this means the image moves in and out all the time by a couple of pixels - enough to be a pain to use, the edges of the screen show this movement pretty obviously. If they had fixed the resolution for output then the GBA Converter would have been a good product, if hardwired to the GBA. Do not consider not hardwiring it to the GBA, it is intensely unreliable if you don't, the contacts barely work and most of the time, do not.

damn. I had planned to solder the wires and not use the ribbon connection, but from the pictures I saw it looked like it was scaled properly at least.
I like the new site layout!

Sorry to slightly Necro the thread but in my opinion the best way to play GBA on a CRT tv screen is with the AD adapter/Super Retro Advance.

It outputs composite only, but that has to be some of the best composite I have seen. The full screen scaling is very good and it outputs 240p. I think it is better than the GameCube adapter.

Looks pretty good indeed. Thanks for the tip.

I really do not think so, at least not easily. I tested mine with a scope and could not find any analog signal coming out of the glob top beside Audio and composite.

Maybe there is a way to get digital video but that is beyond my skills, and without datasheet of the chip that would be hard.

This being said, the composite on this thing is sharper than the component out of the Gamecube player. I made my peace with it, this is quite possibly the best Composite i have ever seen.
