Bought backup arcade monitor how do I use with my supergun?

Post by ninjainspandex »

got a great deal on a brand new 25 inch wells gardener arcade monitor, never been used in a cab was bought new by the owner even still has the protective plastic wrap on the screen. It came in this great metal case that looks like a PVM so I was thinking this would make an ultimate monitor for my Supergun. How do I hook it up to the supergun? it seems to only have one input on the back that looks like VGA but I doubt its actually VGA, maybe RGB? Also do you think its mounted securely in this case enough to use it as a TATE monitor? Hopefully some arcade Gurus can give me some advice on this, quite pleased with this purchase. Here are some pics.

VGA is 15 pins in 3 rows, so that must be RGB which is the arcade standard I thought.

I have contacted the guy who made my supergun to see if he can make a suitable cable for me, hopefully he gets back to me soon

(to my knowledge) - the NeoGeo outputs RGB not VGA as uses C-Sync not H-Sync and V-Sync you need for VGA. If your SuperGun does not convert to VGA then it won't work; if it does, just use a computer VGA cable to connect the SuperGun + NeoGeo to your monitor.

Only option if SuperGun does not output VGA is an RGB > VGA converter box that will take the C-Sync and convert it; however just adds more cost to your project.

my supergun doesn't output VGA just RGB and s-video. I contacted the guy who made my supergun and he said he could make me a cable that will work with my Supergun no problem.

I know that is a VGA cable that is in that picture but it ends in a scart plug.

This monitor doesn't have VGA input. Unless it happens to take 31khz by mixing together H-sync and V-sync.

UPDATE TIME!

So I contacted the guy who made my supergun to see if he could make a custom cable that would allow me to use my Supergun on that monitor and he said he would be happy to. So that cable has now arrived, and low and behold it works absolutely flawlessly with my supergun. The picture is amazing! it has these gorgeous chunky scanlines and is really crisp over RGB scart. I think I have found the perfect tate monitor for my supergun.

Sadly though my other consoles don't seem to work on it I tried my Analogue Interactive CMVS and Sega Saturn and the picture is very wonky where the colors are separated and the picture is faded and it scrolls super rapidly from top to bottom. My speculation is that this monitor is either 15 or 25 khz only and my Supergun likes those signals and my consoles do not. The funny thing is my Supergun would do the same wonky picture when I tried hooking it up to my HDCRT TV. Shame I was really looking forward to using my AI CMVS on this monitor. I suppose I could put a UNI-bios in my 1 slot MVS board and just play Neo Geo games on my Supergun.

Hook up the mvs mobo from yr cab on it - then try yr MVS carts - I bet it would work, then you could just grab a spare 1-slot mobo to use w/yr gun.

i have a 1 slot and it works beautifully with my supergun on this monitor its my AI CMVS that has issues working with it via RGB scart. But the guy who made my cable got back to me and this is what he said.

My guess is that this monitor is maybe 25khz only? thats what some guy on neo thought. he also said most TV's don't accept 25khz signals. So is your supergun outputting 25khz? is that why it works flawlessly on this monitor and not my HDCRT?
This is because these consoles output Composite Video, whereas your monitor requires Composite Sync (this is what arcade PCBs have). This is perfectly fixable, though, you just need a sync stripper.
he has offered to make me said sync stripper so hopefully my other consoles will work with it, STAY TUNED! haha

here is a pic of the monitor working with my japanese 1FZ board via my supergun. Absolutely gorgeous picture, this ipad camera really doesn't do it justice but it was more convienient to upload them to photobucket with it than getting my SLR Canon out. I'll upload much better pictures later, seriously the picture is amazing! If I can get my other consoles working with it I'll have my own little PVM.

here is a pic of the cable he made me, I asked to have a break away headphone jack cable as this monitor doesn't have speakers obviously. I also have a cable that has a male headphone jack and male Red and White stereo cables. So right now I need a pair of speakers that have a volume control on them, anyone have any good suggestions. probably could find some nice ones online.
