Diagnostication on Saturn's booting problems

Post by Gin »

I've been having some issues with my Saturn, it seems when it boots up the game it runs normaly with no problems but when it doesn't boot the game it just freezes up while the disc still spinning. I've cleaned the lens already and all.

My guess is that the laser might not be working on those ocasions but how can I be sure? And if so what can I do?
Also, are there any kind of schematics avaible for the console?

Is there anything in the cartridge slot? I had a memory cartridge freeze my Saturn a couple of times. If you aren't, maybe try cleaning the cartridge slot?

Are you using backup games, or are these official releases? If they are backups, you may try checking the chip, make sure it is set in the connector correctly, check your + and - voltage connections for starters.

Disc clean as well as relatively scratch free? Might try to get a new disc and try before you suspect a hardware problem/pot adjustment/laser calibration.

It also doesn't work well with any other kind of CDs, from demos to music. Besides the disc is near mint condition.
