surprising news. I guess they want some sort of second-party exclusive support for their console? Either way, I don't see this ending well for either party. Amazon's too late to the announcing game for the gen, and they're going to be more associated with mobile gaming, so there's not gonna be a huge draw to their $300 console... unless it's a portable?

So, I smell Ouya? Wasn't it supposed to "compete" with PS3 and Xbox 360?
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

EXACTLY what I was thinking. "Android-Based" isn't gonna fill anyone with confidence

If Amazon produces a serious console in the realm of Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft and less along the lines of some Ouya-like micro console then they'll have my attention. Time will tell how serious they are with this.

See but the problem with the Ouya was that people wanted physical games and not just a bunch of cell phone apps that you played on a television. The only thing that peaked my interest when the Ouya released was being able to play emulators in HD. Now given that there were some great games released on the Ouya, most of those great games were also released on the PSN or the XBL Arcade. In order for a smaller system to compete with the Xbox One and the PS4 they are going to have to develop high quality games much like Thatgamecompany did with Journey. If Amazon is successful in pulling bigger Indie developers like Thatgamecompany and they support physical media with this system then I think they may be able to produce something that people will buy and be happy with. I do not believe that it will be able to compete on the same level as the Xbox One or the PS4 though. Like you said, only time will tell I suppose.CavZee wrote:If Amazon produces a serious console in the realm of Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft and less along the lines of some Ouya-like micro console then they'll have my attention. Re: Amazon acquires Double Helix
I'm tentatively hopeful. If what Amazon means by "compete with Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo" is that they plan to make a full blown home console with a disc drive, serious support from third party developers, and hardware that can actually match (Or beat) the PS4/XBOne then they will have my interest and quite possibly my money.
Or if what they meant to say is "We're ignorant of what gamers expect from a home console experience and plan to make glorified ports of mobile games that you can play on your TV" then sadly I'll have to ignore them.
