The Xbox and PS2 had a handful of games in 720p and 1080i resolutions. These consoles are less powerful than the Wii. Why couldn't the Wii output those resolutions as well over its component cables? Was it just a matter that Nintendo didn't want to, or was it very difficult to do? Seems that if the PS2 could do it, maybe even a Gamecube could to.
Just out of curiosity. I always wondered why we never got any 720p games on Wii.
Q: If PS2 and oXbox output some HD, Why Not Wii?

For the same reason the Gamecube could not, both systems only have 3MB of VRAM (2 if you do not include the texture cache), not enough to output the resolution.

I was blown away when I tried emulating some games - many were programmed with much better quality visuals that you can see from the console at HD resolutions.
