PS3 Controller Range

Post by Frag Mortuus »

I'm looking into getting a new A/V Receiver soon. With that I'm looking into getting one with two zone HDMI capabilities. This would allow me to run an HDMI cable to a second room and use any of the devices hooked up to the AVR on the second TV. This would alleviate the desire to buy a second game console (regardless of which one I want to play at the time) for the bedroom. My wife and I both share the PS3, which is in the bedroom right now because we go in there to play mature games so that my kids don't see it. However, there are plenty of times that I want to play something civil but don't want to go to the bedroom. So, this AVR would fix that problem.

However, my question is what kind of controller range have you all seen come out of the PS3? I know the official answer is about 30 feet, but from some forums I've seen, some people are getting well past that. Some are saying as much as 70 feet, which I don't really believe. That is well past the limit of standard Bluetooth. My bedroom is approximately 50 feet away from the PS3.

What do you all think? Will this work well enough to play a game? I'm at work, I will check when I get home, but just wanted your all's thoughts on it.

Bluetooth is the low end of the 802 radio frequency, how many walls are between your bedroom and PS3? Also how insulated are they?

It is actually a straight shot down the hallway. So, if the door is open there really isn't much interference.

Edit: The interior walls aren't insulated at all. So, just drywall and 2x4's.

My PS3 controllers work more than an entire city block away - and my console is in the basement.

I was playing Final Fantasy IV and a friend came over uninvited. He asked if I wanted to play Tekken, I said not really, and he grabbed my second controller and ruined my game while running away.

I just checked and both my PS3 and PS4 work fine. I'll check the Wii U Pro Controller another time. I already know that the Gamepad won't work though. I've tried

Range is absurd on the PS3. I can control my PS3 in the basement from upstairs, there is no place in my house were I can't get past the PS3 range (once turned on.) I've tried.
