Gamecube Help
Gamecube Help
My Gamecube will only play in black and white and has no sounds. I'm using my PS2 AV cable but I don't think that's the problem. I tried in different ports and through a VCR but nothing helped. Any ideas?
Re: Gamecube Help
Two suggestions:
The problem is likely not your gamecube. If there was an issue so massive as to disable color, there'd probably be no visuals at all.
Suggestion 1: Try using gamecube specific cables. Doesn't have to be first party but I've never heard of using a PS2 cord for a 'cube.
Suggestion 2: Clean the A/V port on your gamecube and make sure there isn't any dust or rust skewing the out put.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Gamecube Help
^ I just picked it up from the pawnshop and don't have a GC cable so I thought I'd give it a go with a PS2 cable. I guess I'll order one. I just hate having to wait a week. The thing is filled with dust in every nook and cranny. I'll see if cleaning it will help. There is no rust though.

Re: Gamecube Help
It should be good then. One fun thing about the Gamecube is that the A/V cable is identical to the A/V cable used on the N64 and SNES. The things are literally all over the place and almost as dirt cheap as a genesis RF switch.
Also, in keeping with the Sega product comparison, the Gamecube is as rugged as a Sega Saturn. Nothing short of a gun shot to the disc drive can break the thing. Clean it, get the right cord and you'll be golden.

Re: Gamecube Help
Yeah, 10 : 1 the issue is the cable being used. I have no idea how you're using PS2 RCA cables with a GameCube, unless it actually fits in the DV out; in which case, it would be understandable that you'd get a black and white image with no sound. Any SNES/N64 RCA or s-video cable should work with the GameCube.Flake wrote:Suggestion 1: Try using gamecube specific cables. Re: Gamecube Help
I have a multi-end component cable that I use for both my Wii & PS2.
The 1st time I tried it on the Wii; same problem. Then I noticed it had a selector switch on it for TV/HDTV, and by flipping that, the picture became normal.

^ I just posted about it in the 'Look What I found' thread. I bought it 'as is' so this kind of giving me a scare. Partly why I took the leap was because it's a Nintendo and they are hardy as hell. Is a digital output better for HDTV's?Flake wrote:It should be good then. One fun thing about the Gamecube is that the A/V cable is identical to the A/V cable used on the N64 and SNES. If you're trying to game on the 'cube on the cheap, you really don't want to ask about getting a digital output from the thing. It will make your wallet cry.oxymoron wrote:^ I just posted about it in the 'Look What I found' thread. I bought it 'as is' so this kind of giving me a scare. How much is it? I'm exactly shooting for super cheap.Flake wrote:If you're trying to game on the 'cube on the cheap, you really don't want to ask about getting a digital output from the thing. Re: Gamecube Help
The gamecube component cable is a proprietary cable that was only ever officially released in Japan.
If you can find one for $50 it's considered a great deal.
