Aeon Genesis got it done. The last chapter of Ys to be available in English - I think.

Yup. Essentially the entire series can be played in English now.

And this is a fantastic game, of course.

Oh snap... this is the one I've been most interested in since it looks so much like other SNES ARPG's of that time (that I can't get enough of).

Do these games need to be played in order or they're all separate canons?

Preferably in order if you want to see the series develop and unfold.

Storywise, as with most RPGs, the plots are so incoherent that you won't feel like you're missing anything if you play V before I or whatever.
