Thinking of giving Zelda another chance.

Post by MrEco »

So the big problem I have with the Zelda series is that, at some point or another, all of the Zelda games I've played end up leaving the player lost to their own devices without clear direction of what to do and/or where to go next.

In Ocarina of Time I played up until this one point where I was in a dungeon which was basically the stomach of a giant fish (Or something aquatic). Then, in order to progress, I would need the boomerang in order to break something that was hanging from the ceiling. But the game doesn't tell you what item you need to break that object, I only found out it was the boomerang from an online walkthrough. And to boot the boomerang was in a completely different area of the game, yet again there was no indication (At least that I saw at any point) of where the boomerang could be found. So I gave up.

In Wind Waker, well, quite simply I got up as far as the section where you're suppose to find the triforce shards and then I said screw it and gave up for obvious reasons.

Twilight Princess however (To date the only Zelda game I've actually beaten) was not as bad though it still had an annoying moment. There was this one part like halfway through the game if I remember correct where you needed to find the parts to a bridge. But other than a very vague clue from Midna the game does not tell you where those pieces are. I only managed to get past that part and eventually beat the game thanks to asking a walkthrough for the locations.

So, the question I'm trying to get to. Does the newest Zelda game, Skyward Sword, have any of those kinds of moments? And if it does, how many of them are there and how annoying are they compared to the others I mentioned? Also on the side, I know that A Link to the Past is a big fan favorite so I would consider playing that one too. So does it have moments like that as well? And last but not least, I heard that the 3DS remake of Ocarina edited some of the dungeons and added in "hint movies." How do those changes effect the problems I mentioned having?

If it wasnt for using the Tingle Tuner with my GBASP in Wind Waker, i wouldnt of found the Tri-Force pieces, that was my least favorite part of the game.

I cant stand the touch controls in Phantom Hourglass, why couldnt they have just gave us the option to not use them!

Just like for the 3DS, its main feature was 3D, good thing we have a choice to not use it, and then the 2DS was born!

If you have a Wii U, they fixed the Triforce quest in Wind Waker. I recommend you give it another go. Along with the Swift Sail, the filler has been almost completely removed.

What did they change about the triforce pieces?

Also the Wii U is starting to look pretty good...

You're playing the wrong games.

Get A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening.

Well, they give you the locations of 5/8 of them from the start with no need for chart translations so you can just run and grab them, and automatically show you the locations of the charts for the other 3 right on your gamepad. The swift sail shortens sailing time by about half which is also nice.

Are those games devoid of the issues I mentioned, or are you just saying that because you like them?

...what? The boomerang is located in that dungeon, not "a completely different area of the game." Where'd you get that idea? :|

Uh... if you felt lost playing OOT or Wind Waker then ALTTP is really going to give you trouble, especially when you get to the dark world.

General rule of thumb is that the older Zeldas are going to give you fewer hints and "end up leaving the player lost to their own devices without clear direction of what to do and/or where to go next" far more often.

I'm not sure why Bone thinks that ALTTP or Link's Awakening will give you clearer direction than the later ones. One of the biggest complaints from long time fans about the newer games is that they give too many hints.
