A load of noob questions

Post by harrrrrrry »

Having a midlife crisis and just bought a dreamcast off ebay with 4 controllers picking it up Monday trying to work out what else I need, never owned one before but my mate used to have one when I had an N64 and I always loved Power Stone.

Can someone tell me the difference between these 2 and which I should buy.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dreamcast-VGA ... 19e47477d8

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-VGA-TV-VI ... 2ec91572e9

And is that really how much they should be or could I find something cheaper?

Is standard practice to burn games to cd or is the sd card route much easier.

And can anyone point me to a list of all available 4 player games.

Anything else that I should be buying?

Thanks and yes I know I'm being lazy !!!

What's up Harry,

We have a thread just for VGA on Dreamcast: Link.

A lot of us on this forum are collectors, so expect to be told that you should buy dreamcast games rather than burn them. I tend to agree with this sentiment because used dreamcast games are plentiful and (for the most part) cheap.

As for game recommendations, I suggest Toy Commander. It's lots of fun, and it's exclusive to Dreamcast.

Finally, I would like to suggest you read this article: link

I burn my dc games. The SD card has low compatibility from what I have read, but I have yet to find a DC burn that didn't work. If the game is cheap, sure, buy it, but some games (Like the pricey imports) you may want to burn, and then buy later if you want to.

Here is a link to a racketboy article about the best DC multiplayer games: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/dre ... ayer-games

I'd suggest stocking up on VMUs and definitely checking out the suggested threads.

The problem, of course, with stocking up on VMUs, is figuring out where you put that one darned save!

Any tips on what cdrs to buy I know it used to be a pain on my modded xbox which brand you bought?

And yes I will buy some originals of the games I like, always nicer to actually own them.

hi hows it goin , check my post recently about burning below

http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 09#p824009

i recommend Taiyo Yuden CD-R for Dreamcast ( make sure their authentic , dont buy off ebay )

and get a fantastic burner , not all burners are the same go to Club MyCE forums and ask there what burner to get theres more than one that can do good burns theres also a lot of shit ones too.

get DCres and ReviveDC rips , they use the original sort order as the original discs. What this does is much less wear and tear on your Dreamcast's laser , btw get some high percentage Isopropyl Alcohol for your laser lens to clean it every 6 months or so.

check this video below

and i like to grease the rails of my Dreamcasts every year keep them in good order , if you want to do the same buy White Lithium Grease like me.

dont spray it on spray it into something disposable and dab a Q-tip in it and grease the rails and any gears.
