Magnavox odyssey 2 question

Post by GirlGamer55 »

I managed to find one in the box at an estate sale. It has the stupid white switch box thing to hook it up to a tv, but my tv doesn't support this. I had the same issue with my Atari, but that was a simple fix. Is there a simple fix for this as well? Like picking up a part at radioshack? Because I don't want to open this thing up and change the game cord.

Thanks.

Well, from what I can gather from the interwebs is that there are two different models of O2. The first uses the standard Atari style phono cable that is hardwired into the system. There is a second model that has the Odyssey connector that requires the switch box. If yours has the Odyssey connector it is best to mod it to use the system on a standard tv.

Here is the link to the mod instructions

aaaaaannnnnd here is the link to the cable you'll need:

I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)

Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping! :)

Wait, you have the box with the little "forks"? You just need an adapter like the one on the right in this photo.

Go to Radio Shack.

A picture would help, found some thru Google Images.

You have two methods.

1. Go with BoneSnapDeez suggestion of a 300 to 75 ohm RF adapter.
2. Lop off the cable and add a standard 75ohm RF connector.

You'll have a cleaner connection with method 2, but cut down on the collectability aspect of the console.

Loosen the screws, stick the "forks" from the white Odyssey box under the screw heads, then tighten the screws.

The adapter hooks to the television via RF. You really don't "screw" in it, just push it firmly.

It'll all be pretty self-explanatory once you see the adapter in person.

You can actually swap out that cable with a standard RCA cable. Just open up the console, unplug the original cable from inside, then swap it out and reassemble.

I actually just unplugged my atari and used the gold jack thing to plug my magnavox in. Worked like a charm and got my ass kicked in space invaders.

I do have a question though. For all those gamers out there that play old consoles like atari's and magnavox, how do you do it? I mean yeah I can just swap the consoles if I want to play a different one but it's a hassle to get to the back of my tv. Do some switcher boxes come with multiple coax jacks? Mine don't, but I am wondering if there are some out there...

Yeah they have switchboxes for Coaxial connections. Have a 3 way coaxial selector box right above my A/V switch box.

Here are a few on amazon but I am sure you could pick these up at a local radioshack.

^ Ah ok, thanks. Might I ask where you got your switch box and how much it was? I'm looking for one like that to replace my shitty 4 dollar ones.
