Help out an Android Noob

Post by Nyukki »

Used to iOS, just got a Samsung S2. What next?

Do I update to the most current os? What's this jellybean thing I hear about and how do I get it? Where's this google marketplace thing I hear about? How do I put MAME on this thing and link it to my icade 8 bitty?

Cheers

i miss my tablet. I have not done any mame gaming, but i've done other games.

I lost my tablet and computer a month and a half ago in a house break in.

I had lots of classic games and emulators. Google searching can help you find many fun cheap android stuffs.

Fantasyanime has links to emulators, you have to find the games obviously

Yongzh Bundle has plenty of fine emulators. They're free and thats all you need to know!

Jellybean is the latest version of android. Android uses a cute naming convention wherein each release represents a sweet treat one letter past the previous release like this:
  • Android 1.5 Cupcake
  • Android 1.6 Donut
  • Android 2.0 Eclair
  • Android 2.2 Froyo
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • Android 3.0 Honeycomb
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
In February 2013, Samsung began rolling out an update to Android 4.1.2 "Jelly Bean" for the Galaxy S II.

The Google marketplace is now called the Google Play store. This is analogous to the App Store on ios. If you're going to update your android, do that before you worry about the Google Play store.

Thanks for the info.

I had a go at trying to update the firmware but it wouldn't let me. Also, it doesn't have a Google Play app, but instead a Samsung Apps Store, which I updated but it won't let me download anything. Think I'm gonna take it to the Samsung shop down the road and ask them to sort it out.

Cheers!

Are you getting an error at all? Are you doing the update over Wi-Fi?

Really? :? It's not in the Apps Drawer?
