Dragon Quest X

Post by Opa Opa »

I figured I'd make a dedicated dq x thread. The only other thread I saw was covering the original launch and that was quite a while back.

The latest of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest online title, Dragon Quest X, has been available for Wii, Wii U, and more recently on PC. Japanese mobile carriers NTT DoCoMo announced that they and Square Enix will be working on bringing Dragon Quest X to iPhone and iPad this winter.
This news particularly excites me. Let's be brutally honest: there's no way we'll ever see the Wii version and, unless Nintendo somehow sells a trillion Wii U's, we won't see the Wii U version either. Right now our only hope for a Western release is the PC version and this newly announced iOS version.

I don't really game on a computer anymore but having Dragon Quest X on my iPad would be bees knees. And with the massive install base I feel the chances of getting it localized are pretty good so long as Square Enix sees a demand. What do you guys think?

(inb4 Square Enix sucks, games on tablets aren't real games, obligatory "it's an mmo so the series is ruined", and all other They Changed It, Now It Sucks posts)... I think I covered all the bases there.

Um, never mind.

But seriously, more Dragon Quest in the west is never a bad thing.

Well I don't like MMOs and there's no way I'd play this on a tablet.

I wish that most MMOs also included an offline single player quest mode - Phantasy Star is the only series that seems to get this right.

With all that said, if a physical PC version is released in the US I'll at least give it a shot.

Still waiting for the 3DS version of VII to be released in the States...........

Square Enix sucks now, and we all know that games on tablets aren't real games. Also, I am disappointed to see that a numbered(!) iteration of a popular series is going to be an MMORPG that probably will not see a western release on a console. (IMO, the series is now completely ruined, and I don't think that I can even enjoy older Dragon Quest games now. The memories of Square Enix's decision are just too painful.) In short, Square Enix changed the Dragon Quest formula with Dragon Quest X, and although I have not played - and probably never will play - the game, I am confident that it sucks.

.....

(I was actually though this game looked like a lot of fun, and the art direction looked great. If it recevied a western release on the Wii - c'mon Nintendo and Square Enix! - I probably would have dipped my toes into MMOs with this game. Accordingly, I am a little disappointed that it probably won't see a console release, buit if it reviews well, I will see if I can convince my wife to let me play it on her iPad. )

Bingo. That's the DQ game most everyone wants.

Yeah I have no idea why Squeenix insists on doing this. Was Dragon Quest Online already taken?

Mark my words - Dragon Quest XI will be a single-player offline game.

How can you play a MMO on a tablet? Touch controls don't really work with a real time battle system (atleast on a RPG)

I haven't played DQ VIII or IX yet but I WANT DQ X SO BADLY! I love the Dragon Quest series; they're PRETTY MUCH my favorite RPGs. I was really hoping that there would be a Wii U version in the US, but I'd take PC-only if it comes to that. I just want to be able to play it in any way! I GUESS I MIGHT HAVE TO BUY AN iPAD IF IT CAME TO THAT AND I REALLY HOPE IT DOESN'T. *frothing-fandom*
I'm not getting my hopes up for ANY American version, but MAN, IT WOULD BE NICE.

I'm generally not a big MMO fan and am currently playing FF XI just because I want to play the main numbered Final Fantasy games (pre-XIII) and it's KIND OF part of the series! Dragon Quest X at least looks like it has a lot more in common with the earlier titles in the series than FF XI or XIV have?
