Atelier Escha & Logy (PS3) / Atelier series thread

Post by ZenErik »

So excited for this one! Been interested since seeing the opening sequence. Reminds me of SHAFT (animation studio).

Opening video:

The game is confirmed for US and European release in early 2014 WITH dual audio: http://www.siliconera.com/2013/09/19/at ... h-america/

The dual audio is a nice change from Atelier Ayesha which was dub only after all the Arland games being dual audio.

If you're a Vita owner you may also look into Atelier Totori Plus and Atelier Meruru Plus on that portable. New Atelier Rorona (originally the first game in the Arland series) will also be coming to Vita. Western release date not announced.

Figured this could be an Atelier series thread too. There is another, but it never made it past a few posts. That topic creator doesn't seem to post here anymore either.

Honestly I think there are way too many of these games. It's starting to look like a Pokemon type series. I've played about 4 of them, think that about wraps it up for me - unless there's something about this new one that makes it drastically different and better than its predecessors.

I've been wanting to get into this series for a while, but I figured I'd put it off until I got a Vita. Planning to start with Meruru Plus, or Ayesha if I don't get one. No sense in playing the sequel before the original. Horray for a male hero this time, though!

I've heard the PS2 games were better, but I don't know about that. The mechanics can only grow, right?

Either way it's really cool that these games keep coming over here. I've always respected Tecmo Koei for that.

It's like Call of Duty for JRPG fans. I won't deny that. The stories are pure fluff. The characters are all designed to fit into typical anime tropes. 2/3 of the cast is generally at least partially tsundere. And I like it. :P The character interactions are fun, and the character designs are fantastic. Some of the music is great too.

Valkyrie: Ayesha is dub only. So if you like dubs that is fine. But that's one reason I never even bothered with that one. I'll wait for a Vita re-release with dual audio.

I don't care if it's dub-only. Dual might be nice, but I've been playing poorly acted games in English for a while now. If it turns out to be good, so much the better. For me, anyway, that seems like a silly reason not to play a game. I understand if it's Atelier though. They're all so similar.

It doesn't work well with these characters, IMO. They're all moe blobs, tsundere, a mix of the two, or other anime tropes. English voice actors don't portray this well, IMO. It's purely my opinion, but English voice actors tend to do better with more serious adult casts and not so much with 'cute girls doing cute things'. :?

Interesting - I was expecting Ayesha to be the last Atelier game released on PS3. Any word on whether a CE will be available?
