3 Recommendations to a Newbie

Post by shwisha »

What 3 games, for each major retro console (we'll cap it off at the PSX/N64 generation), would you recommend to someone who's never played video games before.

I'll with my suggestions for the consoles I spent the most time playing growing up...

These aren't nessasarily the games I personally think are best but best for this imaginary person.

NES

Super Mario Brothers 3
Excite Bike
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

SNES

Super Mario Kart
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
Super Street Fighter 2

Genesis

Earth Worm Jim
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Comix Zone

Playstation

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Metal Gear Solid
Twisted Metal 2

I tried to focus on giving them games that would make them want to play more games.

it's hard to pick three, but i would start in the beginning of each series of...

NES

Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros.
Mega Man (I could also go with Castlevania)

SNES

Super Mario World
Final Fantasy 2 (I'm not going to recommend Final Fantasy Mystic Quest  )
Street Fighter 2

Genesis

Sonic the Hedgehog
Street of Rage
The Revenge of Shinobi

PlayStation

Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo
Resident Evil

List threads wouldn't be so bad if people actually bothered to elaborate as to why they chose what they chose. Then there'd be something to discuss.
