Wavy lines when using component input on my HDTV

Post by vicviperpilot001 »

I just picked up a Vizio E320-A1 32" 720p HDTV, and I'm having trouble with wavy lines in the picture when using the component input. I tried playing both my PS2 and my Wii using component cables, and both consoles have the same problem.

For the PS2, I'm using an official Sony cable, and for the Wii I'm using a Rocketfish cable. Both consoles display wavy lines that can be seen whenever the colors onscreen become dark. (eg: The "press A to continue" screen on Wii, or the dark green loading screen of Ace Combat 5) Basically, any time the screen displays darker-than-usual colors, you can see these lines. When I use basic composite, there are no lines... although the quality is much worse. My PS3 also looks perfectly fine.

I think I can rule out interference, because the consoles are plugged into an extension cord separate from the power strip I have my TV plugged in, and the only other things plugged into my TV are my PS3 through HDMI and a basic antenna. My best guess is that the TV itself is the problem.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this problem? Should I try a replacement TV? A completely different brand of TV? Or is this a common problem I'll just have to deal with?

The PS3 works fine, huh? Could it be that your TV wants its native resolution? Try setting the PS3 to 480i/480p only and see what happens.
