Which PSP model to get for Emulation

Hi all,
I am looking to get a PSP to mod for emulation, I was wondering what model would be best for this. I have heard that the 1000 is the best but I just wanted to get some different opinions.

actually the psp 1000 is no longer the best, the model 2000 and 3000 have twice as much RAM which many emulators can utilize meaning it runs smoother. the decision is left to personal preference as the PSP 3000 has a more vibrant screen but it has a small bit of interlacing where the psp 2000 has no interlacing but a bit of ghosting. But IMO the ghosting and interlacing is very minimal and only noticeable if your looking for it. Just go for whatever you can find cheapest which would probably be the 3000.

I have never noticed any ghosting on my PSP-2001, and I've played it for thousands of hours. Maybe it depends on the batch.

Anyway, find a 2000 model, not a 2001. You'll be able to install permanent custom firmware, while the 2001 model I have won't let me install anything. PRO and Half-byte loader do work, but you'll have to wait for them every time you reboot the PSP.

I'm not an authority on the PSP or anything, but I got the PSP Go mainly for the emulation and am liking it. I installed Pro CFW and installed several emulators with each working very well.

I would recommend getting the PSP 2000 even though mine is acting weird. It used to be noticeably faster than my 1000 with emulation, but recently it can't seem to handle it. I'm not sure what happened, but now my 1000 performs much better. That said, I think it's just a fluke with my PSP.

This all depends if you're going to be using POPS(playstation emulator built into the psp) or not.
If this does matter to you you need a any 1000, any 2000, or a 3000 3g according to the link at the bottom
I have a psp 3000 4g(GoW GoS edition) so I have limited pops options which I means have limited ps1 compatibility.

If that isn't what you're going to do with it then a psp 2000/3000 should be good.
Even if you have to do the cfw each time(unless you're on 6.20 which has an option for it to automatically put cfw each time) it takes less than a minute each time.

Note:if you're going to use this for snes games that have a special chips, they're either not going to work that well or you're going to have to do a lot of tinkering with the settings.

I use a psp 3000 with HEN 6.60 PRO-C and Popstation works fine on it. Some games don't work quite right or not at all but it seems those don't work on any model of PSP. I couldn't get Dragon Warrior VII to work on my psp 1000 or 3000. as for SNES use Snes9x the only special chip game I couldn't get to work was starfox 2.

Even games that don't use special chips won't work well, even if you tinker with the settings.

Ditto, PSPgo has the smallest form factor, built in 16GB flash, with an expansion slot if you want to buy another card for it. Runs everything you throw at it, as will any other model, but if you plan to avoid buying physical games for the system, it's a no-brainer in my book.

Given that your name is the TheSegaSaturnGuy you definitely want a 2000 or newer. The only halfway working Saturn emulator for PSP requires the extra ram that the 1000 doesn't have.

Not that Saturn emulation on the PSP is any good at the moment, but if it's EVER going to get there it's not going to be on a 1000
