Fix-It-Felix Jr PC/Arcade Cab (Now asking DOS help)

Post by SpaceBooger »

I found the exe version of Fix It Felix used in Disney's arcade cab.
I was able to make a batch file to run it in my homemade arcade cab's frontend, but the controls are not mapped to match the MAME set-up.
I could use a mapper, but I want something semi permanent so that my kids only have to open one file to open through Maximus Arcade.

Is there any way to edit the files or make a stand alone file with remapped controls?

Please help a father out who's kids are finally interested in playing the arcade instead angry birds on my phone.

You could probably remap them through the programs INI file.

@ SpaceBooger - Thanks for the link! I downloaded it, a decent game.

I did not see an INI file, but there is a Controls.log in the Data folder. I opened it with Notepad, does not look to be easy to edit though. However, the default game keys can be set to run off your game controller using either a Joy2Keys or JoyCursor program. Throw both EXEs in a BAT file to tie the keyboard program and game to run under one Mouse Click.

jay_red built a cab based on this game, I posted a heads up and linked your Thread to his.

I have not used either of these programs, is this hard to do? Any advise or a guide for this?
Thanks!

That game is slick, thanks for pointing it out. You made jay_red happy too for his custom cab.

The keyboard utilities are pretty easy to use, each has unique capabilities. I have used them for Gameport to USB Flightsticks as well as Buzz Controllers converted for PC use. You'll find the download links in each of these Guides.

Awesome.
I got the game running on my cab, now I have some questions.

1. Since Maximus Arcade creates a bat file, the ugly CMD window (XP) is open and can be seen in the background. Is there any command I can add to the bat file to hide or close the window? I'm using Hstart to fix this.

2. Since the game can only be ran in full screen on a vertical monitor: is there a command that I can add to the bat file to hide the window(blue bar) and the menu?

3. More importantly, the game does not open in the center of the screen. Since the window does not fill the screen- can I add a command to the bat file to center the game once it opens?

Thanks!

Disappointing the game does not have a Full Screen mode unless it is Tate rotated. I found a Thread that has more info, but no luck on the Full Screen unrotated. Maybe there might be a revision later? Looks like that Controls.log file is not the user controller, but for the demo attract mode. There are also downloads in the link of voice clips to upgrade the game. :D

Yeah, I got the voices from there and removed them. They were in the movie's version of the game, but they would not have been in a game from 1982... so I removed them.
