How To Copy Burned Dreamcast Backups
How To Copy Burned Dreamcast Backups
My local used game store manager was nice enough to let me borrow a couple burned dc games he had.
I was wondering if there is anyway for me to burn these. I have a mac and pc available for use. I've tried making a disc image and a cd to cd copy, but nothings working.
thanks

use a program called alcohol 120%. set disc type to normal CD and then copy it. once you install alcohol120% you can also burn other DC games you get online that are in. CDI image format

I tried alcohol120, but was overwhelmed by some of the configuration options (DAO, RAW SAO, etc..) could you elaborate a little more.SnowKitty wrote:use a program called alcohol 120%. set disc type to normal CD and then copy it. once you install alcohol120% you can also burn other DC games you get online that are in. Also my windows machine is a laptop (read 1 cd drive) if that makes a difference.

You might want to take some time to learn about CD burning and all it's different modes.
DAO - Disk at once. This doesn't put a 2 second gap between each track. A data disk is generally 1 track so DAO doesn't really matter.
SAO - session at once... this is for a multi-session disk. A videogame will NOT be a multi-session disk.
RAW - this is just a raw image...
When burning an image... just click ok, ok, ok... the image has all the format information stored in it.
When burning from a .bin file you should receive a .cue sheet with it which is where all the format information is stored.
When copying a disk do a direct copy of the disk. The software you use doesn't matter, as long as it supports direct copy. People just scream on and on about Alcohol 120% for God knows why... personally I think the software is convoluted and annoying to use. Nero has always been straight forward and simple for me... no issues there. If I REALLY have to burn some format it doesn't support, I just mount it with Daemon tools and do a direct copy.

there is a little option selector thingy that says something like disc type and it has all kinds of options like audio cd, secu-rom, safedisc, etc. set it to normal CD and dont fuck with the DAO, etc options. if you have only 1 drive it will rip a copy to your hard disk and burn from that. i could make a few screenshots later on if you are still confusedcabrando wrote:I tried alcohol120, but was overwhelmed by some of the configuration options (DAO, RAW SAO, etc..) could you elaborate a little more.SnowKitty wrote:use a program called alcohol 120%. set disc type to normal CD and then copy it. once you install alcohol120% you can also burn other DC games you get online that are in. Well I've officially run out of cd's. Only 2 worked which I did the same way as the others that didn't, I don't understand that. I've read lots of information and it seems I'm doing the right thing.
Could there be any extra factors that's causing my failure? (Game disk is scratched, the way it was originally written to the disc, etc..)

I've never really copied a backup before. You could always try downloading another version off the net and try burning that. The only problem with cd-burning is there are lots of factors to weigh in as to regard the success of a burn. You could try burning at a lower speed. I burn all my DC games at 4x and never get a problem. You're cd burner could be on the blink, does it burn other cd's fine or are you still having problems? If you don't have a burn proof cd burner then you may run out of cache mid burn that can cause the burn to fail.
