How much to spend on a Virtual Boy?

Post by someone3760 »

How much should I expect to pay for a Virtual boy? All I care is if both eyes are working, otherwise it can have no stand and not include games. Thanks.

I just would like to say about the Virtual Boy, if you are prone to headaches of any kind... stay away from this system. Especially if you get migraines.

If you really want to get your money's worth... maybe wait a few years and see if the market cools down.

I'm under the impression that Virtual Boys normally run about $100. I don't know why you would want one without a stand, since it's pretty necessary to play comfortably. And then there are only a couple honestly good games for it, like Wario Land and Mario Tennis.

I read online that you can attach a small camera tripod instead of a stand, so that sounded cool. I might buy one without the stand or visor with glitches in one eye for 25 possibly. Does that sound good?

I saw one in the wild in good condition with everything included at a retro game shop that had good prices on mostly everything there. The owner priced it at $200.

I would try and get one where both work.

It would be too hard to try to replace or fix one of these, since there are so few out there.

The Glass(?) leneses are sensitive and It seems that theres some moving parts along with that. It seems when I use mine that theres some slight movements/vibrations, it seems to be a part of the way its made. I would try to find one in person to see if it works.

Many Virtual boys had stands once, but make sure that the metal plate on the VB is not damaged. These VB when no longer used got thrown around and the stands broke. I saw a lot of them back in day damaged. Its damaged to a point where you can no longer put a stand on it anyways. It still needs something to screw on to.

That little Knob and screw under the VB is the one that can get damaged and prevent the system from staying upright.

A lot of VB lost the rubber eye guards too. but this is a minor problem. It can still work without it.

If you do find one, you're better off getting it with the AC adapter. The Virtual boy uses batteries (obviously) but if you can get the adapter then go for it. It uses the same as the SNES

Heres a pic of it (not mine)

this guy slides in and out of the controler. I have one of these but its missing the flip cover. If you do a lot of fleamarkets you may get lucky and find one.

If you ever do find one base only, dont hesitate to check to see if they have games in them. Thats How I found most of mine.

good luck!
