Monaco: What's Yours is Mine

Post by fastbilly1 »

Is anyone else playing this amazing game? Last night, Ack, Xen, and myself fired it up and played through the first 10 stages. We got stuck on the Discotheque stage and just gave up after five or six tries - too many civilians. But we did score under 20th in the world for the day on many of the maps, under 100th of all time on one of them. Honestly, I thought we were doing pretty good when I noticed we beat several stages in half the time my other friends had beaten them. Until we got to the museum stage...

If you do not know about it, it is a coop heist game from the top down perspective. Now it has its issues, controls feel really wonky the first time you play it and the lighting is trippy, but once you get the hang of it it is exciting. It has been a long time since I was playing a coop game where everything can be perfect, then go to hell in a split second, and every one is cheering moments later. Case in point, last night we were playing a stage as the Lookout (me), Cleaner (Xen), and Locksmith (Ack). As we were running through, Xen and Ack got killed by some doctors with crossbows and I was stuck in a vent by some guards. As soon as they stopped aggroing me, I ran around the map top of the map and jumped out a window with doctors and guards chasing me. I eventually worked my way around the outside, ducking the cameras and hiding in bushes, until I could see my downed team. The guards were not moving from them, and time was ticking, so I ran in, dropped a smoke bomb and brought up the Cleaner. Xen ran off and caused hell knocking out people giving me time to bring Ack up and we huffed it out to the getaway car - cheers all around.

It is kinda like a multiplayer puzzle adventure game with stealth elements. And since I am not a big stealth guy, it is surprising that I find it so appealing.

This game looks amazing, sadly I couldn't get any of my friends to buy into a 4 pack. I can't play with you guys anymore due to work commitments :(

We beat the main story last Thursday and moved on to the secondary "hardmode" stages. Overall the game is excellent, but does have one major flaw. The game has moments that are just damningly difficult due to inconsistent AI. Now this is not an issue for most people, but I realized that some AI characters would chase me, but pull off to chase one of my partners randomly. It was random, I would run off with people chasing me, and one or two would just go off and chase Ack or Xen for no reason. Once Xen was hiding and they stood outside his bush. It is most likely a odd bug in the AI programing but it is super aggravating on the hardmode stages.

Though we discovered that Ack is best as the Mole, Xen is best as the Hacker, and I am best as the Red Head. They play very differently, and according to the power players should not play well together, but we have a hoot playing as them. That and TNT is the best weapon in the whole game.
