i just picked up a super famicom, but it doesn't come with an ac adapter or video cable. i was considering the 3rd party one the guy wanted to sell to me but when i asked if it would work on a u.s. outlet he kinda grimaced and made some explanations in japanese that were beyond my comprehension. so now...
i know nothing about electricity/current/amps/voltage, etc. can i use a SNES ac adapter with a japanese super famicom? if someone has their adapter on hand, can you post the specs listed on the back? i've heard some people say the japanese adapter will work fine on u.s. outlets without a converter but i'm not sure. if you know, please speak up! i gotta pack it up and leave in a few days
the manual says the adapter is AC100v, DC10v, 850mA

For the video cable you just need to get a Gamecube one for example. I found out the other day when searching a cable for my N64 that the SNES, N64 and Gamecube all use the same plug.
For the ac adapter, I'm not entirely sure. I think the voltage in Japan and States is the same - Europe has 220 V so there's where you can't plug. But let's hear ppl from the U.S. and see what they have to say.

in between some parts of europe raised the voltage up to 240V at 50Hz(just in case...)
the usa has a 110V-mains at 60Hz, i.e. your ac adaptor could have a wrong ratio of voltages and toast your super famicom as a result of that.
i think you`d do better with a new adaptor with these specs. they`re really cheap with DC 10V and lets say 1A current (quite the converse to a 12V / 3.5A adaptor for the gamecube...)
know your roots !!!

First off, the US standard is stated as actually 115v at 60mhz... this is because alternating current jumps up and down. It's actual rating ranges due to area from 100v all the way up to sometimes 130v (I've tested my own house and in the winter see ratings nearly this high... like 128v).
Pumping a 110v to a 100v adaptor will cause it to heat up more... the adaptor will then pump out 10v (as that is what it's limited too) with a higher amperage... not too high, won't really fry your SNES, the difference is very minor. The adaptor would most likely fry before the SNES would. Try the thing out and if it seems unnaturely high (i bet you have a Genny, play the bugger for a long time and see how hot the plug gets. If the SNES one gets hotter then that... then go buy a new one).
I don't see the worry, people import Jap systems constantly and hook them strait to US outlets... never heard of a problem before. Now if you bought it in parts of China I would be concerned as there are parts of Asia (including sectors of China) that use different standards. But Jap is basically like ours.
