Dear Internet,
Nintendo hates you
http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-rem ... 7520.phtml
I find it really hard to bury my old hatred for Nintendo lately. Between delaying games until next year, keeping region locking and all their past dick moves, UGH.
How can anyone love a company that doesn't give a flying fig about it's fans? At least Microsoft listened to backlash...Nintendo, NOPE they don't care about you and it shows.
The Rev Hates Nintendo Thread or is it the other way around?

Re: Join the movement to make Nintendo consoles region-free!
Troll? If you're looking for some one to take the bait, I'll bite because I'm bored right now.
I feel like Nintendo is the only major player in the video game market that actually DOES care about its fans. Microsoft pulled a 180 because of the backlash... on a console that hasn't been released yet. We're asking Nintendo to change policies and functions on consoles that have already launched. It's not fair to compare the two.
And what exactly are their past dick moves? Having the only launch model console last gen that you didn't have to worry about it failing? Granted, YLOD didn't seem nearly as common as the RROD. But you're lucky if your model 1 360 has made it this far, and forget about it ever lasting as long as your 20+ years old SNES or Genesis will. And there is no acronym for Wii hardware failure. So, building a solid console that isn't a piece of shit... yeah, they did that because they hate you.
Maybe I'm a Nintendo "fanboy" but I try to keep a level head about everything. Singling out Nintendo as a company that doesn't care about their fans, that's just mind blowing. The original 360 hardware was pure junk, Sony took away Other OS and apparently had such shitty security that made it easy for PSN to get hacked and every ones credit card number stolen. But Nintendo, they're clearly the worst for not listening to fans and removing region locks from consoles that are already launched. How dare they!

Delaying games, yes, Nintendo does that because they hate you. Not because they have the "we'll push this game out the door and patch it later" approach like every one else seems to have these days. How could you possibly be mad at some one for delaying a game? If it isn't ready, it isn't ready! I don't want it if it isn't ready. I don't want my cake without the icing, I'll wait till it's done. I admire Nintendo for delaying games. That says to me they actually CARE about their fans and don't want to put out a game that isn't polished or potentially has bugs. They're not delaying a game because they're trying to be mean, they just don't want to put out a shitty game!TheRev wrote:I find it really hard to bury my old hatred for Nintendo lately. Nintendo has
-used litigation has a bully tatic
-bullied 3rd parties
-refused to localize Mother 3 despite fan out cry
-will not do another F-zero because Miyamoto said so dispite HUGE fan demand.
-to make up for poor Wii U sales, tried to monetize lets play videos
that backfired of course.
- Betrayed Sony on the SNES CD Rom becuase GASP Sony wanted a fair cut of the profits HEAVEN FORBID a company get a fair share of the profits.
-FOR NO REASON AT ALL region locked the DSi and 3DS.
- And now refusing to get rid of archiac Region Lock dispite fan demand.
-had Gunpei Yakoi killed, and paying off who they can to discredit people who are catching on.
Sony and Microsoft may not be angels either but Nintendo has out dick moved both and they get a free pass?
Not from me they don't
DO NOTE I don't hate them because of their games. I just hate them as a company. F-Zero X, GX and Mario Kart 64 are 3 of my all time favorite games.

What, the crap that happened around the NES era and some ancient history court cases?TheRev wrote:-used litigation has a bully tatic

You don't know the entire picture. From what I've read, they never wanna release a game on VC or whatever if they have to change anything in the game due to licensing issues and whatnot. Do they not want to spend money, or do they not want to butcher a game? I guess you can put whatever spin on it, good or bad. There might be licensing issues with Mother 3, or the fact that there's not enough demand to justify the cost.TheRev wrote:-refused to localize Mother 3 despite fan out cry
We're getting Earthbound, probably mostly if not all due to fan outcry.
Come on, HUGE fan demand? I don't know about that. Wasn't there an interview with Miyamoto where he said he didn't have any good ideas for another F-Zero? So you're saying he should just go ahead and make one because we want it?TheRev wrote:-will not do another F-zero because Miyamoto said so dispite HUGE fan demand.
You injected so much drama into one simple fact. Give me a break, I'm sure Nintendo could have renegotiated prices if they wanted to. There MUST have been other reasons why they pulled out, we just don't know about them.TheRev wrote:- Betrayed Sony on the SNES CD Rom becuase GASP Sony wanted a fair cut of the profits HEAVEN FORBID a company get a fair share of the profits.
All consoles up to this point have been region locked, or some form of it. IIRC, the Wii U came out before Sony and MS announced their new consoles are region free. The 3DS and DSi were way before.TheRev wrote:-FOR NO REASON AT ALL region locked the DSi and 3DS.
Your destructoid article was sensationalized. I believe NOA's response was simply, "Nintendo has no plans to remove region locking from our systems. By taking this approach, Nintendo is able to include parental controls and ensure compliance with regional standards and rating systems."TheRev wrote:- And now refusing to get rid of archiac Region Lock dispite fan demand.
Although I would like to see region free Nintendo consoles, I can at least understand that it's not so easy to just go ahead and do something like this to consoles that have already been launched.
Well IDK anything about that, but it certainly sounds like a conspiracy theory if I've ever heard one before. Even if Nintendo has people killed, I bet Sony and MS have way more.TheRev wrote:-had Gunpei Yakoi killed, and paying off who they can to discredit people who are catching on.
I'm not saying give Nintendo a free pass, and I'm not trying to paint a picture of them as this all perfect company. I just don't think you've made any good points. I certainly don't see them being as bad as Sony or MS, but to each his own I guess.
Re: Join the movement to make Nintendo consoles region-free!
Well you kept it civil and respected my point of View. So I see no reason to push this issue farther.

That's not just a fair share of the profits. That's putting themselves entirely in control of the SNES-CDs.However, the two companies conflicted over control of the licensing. Under their agreement, Sony would develop and retain control over the SNES-CD disc format, effectively ceding a large amount of control over software licensing to Sony.

Since I layed it all out here, does my hatred of Nintendo seem irrational?
It's not everyday you come across somebody who just hates Nintendo.

How is that endearing to mainland China?Ack wrote: They've already appealed to the Chinese government by hiring a Taiwanese individual to head their Chinese front corporation, iQue.
Right, because a virtually endless coin collect-a-thon, and a cat suit were ideas that the world just wouldn't have been the same without.Ziggy587 wrote: Wasn't there an interview with Miyamoto where he said he didn't have any good ideas for another F-Zero? It's more than likely a software update, so it would be that easy. Also, instances of region locking in Nintendo handhelds before the DSi are very rare.Ziggy587 wrote:Although I would like to see region free Nintendo consoles, I can at least understand that it's not so easy to just go ahead and do something like this to consoles that have already been launched.
I typically hate Nintendo. ("Hate" is probably strong; I have extreme indifference toward Nintendo, but I hear that's the opposite of "love," anyway.)TheRev wrote:It's not everyday you come across somebody who just hates Nintendo.

Wow, if you really think Nintendo has "out dick moved" Microsoft and Sony, then you've either got a really limited memory or just plain want reasons to be mad at Nintendo. Given how insanely petty (and in the case of the Gunpei Yokoi thing, completely insane) a lot of those "dick moves" are, I'd wager the latter.TheRev wrote:Nintendo has

Not from me they don't.
I'll just stick with Sony here since I know their stuff better:
Remember Sony and Bleem? Sony and Lik-Sang? Removing BC, OtherOS? How about SCEA's approval policies pushing Working Designs into a corner over Growlanser, sticking them in a losing situation, and effectively shutting them down? Hell we can even toss in the whole Sony killed Sega thing while we're at it, it's at least as sensible as anything you posted in your Nintendo criticisms. As MrPopo already pointed out, the whole SNES-CD thing was largely Sony slipping in stuff that would've granted them 100 percent legal control and full profits over anything released on the CD system, which was pretty underhanded. Oh remember when Sony wanted to stop 2D games from being released in the earlier days of the Ps1?
If we dip into non-gaming stuff, I'll remind you that Sony at one point was slipping rootkits into music CDs they produced.
The best part of all this is though that Nintendo's pulled worse stuff than what you've listed. Sega's pulled tons of underhanded shit too. Frankly, if Nintendo's list of underhanded bullshit is longer than Sony and Microsoft's, it's only because Nintendo's been in the industry longer.
Re: Join the movement to make Nintendo consoles region-free!
I never said Sony was innocent. But Unlike Nintendo, they had rational reasons for doing everything they did.
Besides the rootkits and Ken Kutaragi being one giant douchetard.
