I did a little searching on this and couldn't answer my questions here (or elsewhere really).
So here it is:
What 6th Generation games were designed and or formatted to display best in old SDTV resolutions; I'm talking de-interlaced (scan-lines) like the generations before them.
More specifically, I'd like to know all the PS2 games that are this way.
So far, I've run into ICO and La Pucelle Tactics, but I'm sure a lot of other games apply too.
There are also a lot of classic game compilations that this applies to on the system, but I consider that a given since they are older games. I wouldn't mind those added to a list of some kind too, but I'm MORE interested in the games of that era.
The TV I play most on has the option of scan lines or interlaced formats. But sometimes I don't really know which option the game was designed for.

Disgaea, a SRPG series by the same developer as La Pucelle, is supposed to display 240p.

That makes sense, as the PSP port is what was used to show the scan-line effect on the 3000 model PSPs.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Disgaea, a SRPG series by the same developer as La Pucelle, is supposed to display 240p.
So it's games in "240p" resolution that I'm looking for then?
Sorry, I've been a bit ignorant as to the specifics of resolution quality; It's only recent years that I got a HDTV (which is still a Tube-TV). I've mostly just played on SDTVs with the best option being S-video.
--EDIT--
I found a couple interesting reads (which I know similar things have been addressed in topics here, but am putting it here for my own reference).

I just wish I knew the other ones too.Known PS2 Games that use 240p resolution Edit
(and might not be displayed by a HDTV over component cables)
Disgaea
Gradius iii
ICO
Megaman X collection
NeoGeo compilations, at least some of them.
Tekken 1,2 arcade modes in Tekken V
WWE Smackdown Shut Your Mouth
To name a few

I know what you mean, most HD LCDs have issues with older consoles due to the upscale. Since you are using older consoles, you made a good move sticking to the tube when you upgraded to HD. By all means get the PS2 Component Cables for games such as God of War and Gran Turismo.nightrnr wrote:So it's games in "240p" resolution that I'm looking for then?

Even non 480p games display with crisp imagery with component cables on a HD CRT. Some on that list you posted above I have played on my HD WEGA Tube and saw no issues, just a sharp picture. In addition, your DVDs and newer consoles look so much better versus the older 480i TV. You lost Retro Light Gun support but gain in picture quality.

Yeah. HDTVs are basically inferior for all standard definition sources. A CRT that supports 480p is the best.
That said, I'm pretty happy with my LCD for PS2 games. 8-bit and 16-bit games look great...on emulators.

Re: De-interlaced Low-Res SDTV optimized 6th Gen. games
Not the answer you asked for really, but It's sorta relevant;
There's a way to force a moddsd PS2 into 240P mode or 480P with forced scanlines by running GSM. The 480P mode can remove the interlaced line leaving a clean image on games designed to be displayed in 240P but are output interlaced on a PS2 normally (no built-in support for 240P). The result is an amazing inprovement on many patformers and shmups I tried it on, and the scanlined output on the 480P mode looks great even on LCDs - the same as what an XRGB can do.

Re: De-interlaced Low-Res SDTV optimized 6th Gen. games
Yes,
I ran into that page and it is pretty informative.
Anapan,
I've heard about converting the ISOs to 480p, which I may do at some point (as I use OPL to play a lot of my PS2 games on HDD). I'm sure it will be even more attractive once I finally get an LCD TV; but for now, I think I just want to stick with playing them in the original format.
It looks like there's really not too many that are 240p though. I usually notice pretty fast when they are; and like I said, the TV I'm using let's you switch to game mode (forces scan lines), so I'll just use the option when I feel it's appropriate.
You guys are great!, thanks for the responses.

Re: De-interlaced Low-Res SDTV optimized 6th Gen. games
I'm interested to know if it counts on your list;
HoiHoi-san / Ichigeki Sacchu!! HoiHoi-san (一撃殺虫!!ホイホイさん One-Shot Bug Killer!! Interceptor Doll HoiHoi-san) appears to be a converted PS1 game or is running in a strange video mode. It seems to be 320x240 but is blurred worse than a 240P playing in 480I game. No matter what I do it's crappy looking. Can anyone who has it verify or identify what's going on with it's video output?
Also, again, not what you asked - the Sunsoft PS2 compilations are 240P compatible and look great.

Re: De-interlaced Low-Res SDTV optimized 6th Gen. games
Hmm, I guess I'm just looking for actual PS2 games. Maybe if it was truly a port (and not just the same PS1 game re-packaged; like Metal Gear Solid in the Metal Gear Solid collection <making an assumption here as I don't have it to confirm>). A true port would be interesting enough to put on the list.Anapan wrote:I'm interested to know if it counts on your list;

I think I actually like how 240p looks, at least for older games.Anapan wrote:Also, again, not what you asked - the Sunsoft PS2 compilations are 240P compatible and look great.
When I 1st got Mega Man Collection for Gamecube, it took me a while to figure out why I preferred the look on the NES games.
I do actually have 2 TVs;
the older of the 2 will play the appropriate games at 240p, no problem (I just wish my nicer TV did that by default instead of keeping me guessing). I may have to hook my PS2 to the other TV to see what I find. I do play a lot of fighters, so it would be nice to know which support what.
