Just got a Wii U

Post by Sano »

So my sister bought a Wii U for my nephew and I like it so much, I want one of my own. Anyway, I bring it up because of the retro games you can buy from the store. I know they have Link To The Past and a few others. Does anyone have a Wii U and some retro games? How well do they play? :?: :?: :?:

The cool thing about the VC games is you don't need to play them on your TV. Playing them on the game pad is great, especially before bed.

SNES games look pretty awesome on Wii U, particularly on the game pad. NES games look slightly dark for some reason, but work well. The Wii U offers the ability to suspend a game and restore it, supports all Wii U compatible controllers (Wii remote, Gamepad, Wii Classic Controller, Wii U Pro Controller) with fully customisable button layouts. In PAL regions we're starting to benefit from finally recieving 60hz versions of games, but that doesn't really impact you Americans.

A Link to the Past isn't available yet on the Wii U VC, but I'm sure it'll be along soon. All original Wii VC games can be purchased on Wii U, but they don't support gamepad play and don;t have customisable button layouts. You can buy them, but when the Wii U VC version of the same game comes out it'll have more features. There is an option to upgrade for a fee once available (about $1-2 depending on game), but it's probably better to wait for the Wii U release in general.

The full list of Wii U VC games available right now in North America is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Vi ... h_America)

Wait... You can play VC games on that Wii U controller thingy!? SOLD!
Sharing a 50" HDTV with toddler sucks. If I can switch the inputs on the TV, then continue playing my game on controller, that would be pretty friggin' awesome. In-fact, that's the only reason Kit doesn't play as much as she'd like. Darn kids...

You can also get the retro controller pro(I believe it's called)[3rd party], but it has an SNES controller integrated in to its design, very well built and wireless definitely a welcomed touch that makes the games more enjoyable (IMO).

Yep. You don't even need to switch the inputs. Everything can be done on the Game Pad.

But you can't play Wii VC on the gamepad right? Just Wii U VC? When is the New VC going to support non Nintendo classic games?

Not yet ... but personally I'm pretty confident Nintendo is going to roll out an update that allows Wii mode to be used on the gamepad itself. Currently, there's no hardware restriction from doing that. The gamepad even has IR LEDs in it for Wii remote tracking.

And the games, that I've tried so far have played great. You can use pretty much any setup you want with Wii U VC.

I just picked one up and I am actually super impressed. I was holding off due to the lack of content but after seeing the new games coming out, I just couldn't help myself! Weird to say but e3 made me want have a wii again lol That hasn't happened since '06.

On a side note: While looking around gamestop today I came across Metroid other m for 3.99 used! Metroid! $3.99! It wasn't up to par with the other Metroid games but it definitely wasn't that bad!

I just got a Wii U today and boy am I disappointed with the layout and lack of games on the virtual console. Is there no way to sort games by console? And why don't they have all the games that were on the wii virtual console on the Wii U? It can't be that complicated. Also isn't Earthbound coming to the virtual console? Thats the only game I'd really consider getting.
