Finally I've managed to tackle this game. The mod makes XWA easier to look at, but be cautioned if you have an AMD card you probably won't get 3D acceleration. Pity nobody has bothered to make a Star Wars campaign using the far superior Freespace2 engine.. furthermore this game isn't available as a digital purchase either.

Seriously though, XWA is an excellent game, though stuck with an antiquated engine. A new XWA would be awesome, and give me a better excuse for owning three flight sticks...

You can also play through the missions in Xwing and Bwing in the XWA engine, I will have to hunt for the mod for you though.
