It's one of those "I'm getting a PS3 for this" games and I'm hearing mixed things about it.
I hardly ever finish RPGs either so PS3 I'll probably only get 3 max. (Cross Edge, Ni No Kuni and Valkria Chronicles)
Thoughts on the game are apprecated and good alternateives to it if you don't like it. I would like an RPG I'll actually be COMPELLED to finish.
Thoughts on Cross Edge?
Re: Thoughts on Cross Edge?
As a fan of NIS America I'll say it is unbearably bad. Makes the first Hyperdimension Neptunia look good.
Re: Thoughts on Cross Edge?
It's pretty bad. The story has absolutely nothing going for it, to get the true ending requires a guide and involves a ton of steps where you have to make sure you hit every single event flag, and the battle system starts off as uninspired, then gets more interesting when you can finally do some decent combos, but at about the same time you're also required to set up a full turn break combo to be able to deal appreciable damage, so it goes right back to boring since you're still doing the same thing each time, just now there's flashier graphics to it.

Re: Thoughts on Cross Edge?
what would you recommend instead? One of the newer Tales Of games? A Disgaea?
Remember Valkria Chronicles and Ni no Kuni are on the get list.

Disgaea's good if you're into grinding; the main story doesn't take your characters very far level-wise, and so much of the game is in post-game content which all funnels into the idea of building a party of super soldiers.
Tales is a good one, you could also look at Resonance of Fate, though that's multiplatform.
[edit] Meant to say RoF was multiplatform, not multiplayer

Disgaea 4 is a fantastic tactical RPG with enjoyable characters and a fun story.
Tales of Graces f.. Amazingly fun battle system. Mediocre characters. Annoying dub. Subpar story.
Ni no Kuni was the disappointment of the year for me.
Are you only looking for PS3 RPGs? I haven't had much luck finding ones I am really fond of. The Atelier games are fun but lack direction.
Not an RPG, but I highly recommend Catherine if you haven't yet played it. Great puzzle game from the Persona team.

As someone not at all into grinding, I learned this the hard way. I really dug the battle system, charactersm and world too, oh well.MrPopo wrote:Disgaea's good if you're into grinding; the main story doesn't take your characters very far level-wise, and so much of the game is in post-game content which all funnels into the idea of building a party of super soldiers.

I do of course still have my 360, but I don't think any more RPGs will grace it.ZenErik wrote:Disgaea 4 is a fantastic tactical RPG with enjoyable characters and a fun story.

Why did you find Ni No Kuni Disappointing? I'm a HUGE Ghibli fan so that's why I plan on getting it.
Re: Thoughts on Cross Edge?
A lot of it was probably Ni no Kuni having the least fun battle system/gameplay I've experienced in quite some time. Maybe it gets better? I honestly gave up on the game after 6-8 hours and sold it. Plenty of stuff I like A LOT more elsewhere.
