Games these days...

Post by TheBrick »

Reading this gave me a bruise from all the facepalming I ending up doing. Really? Really people? Sure, it took me about four months cause I kept getting stuck every 5-10 minutes, but I'm proud to say that I beat Super Metroid solo, without getting help. And if someone whose default reaction to a wall in their way is to blow it up can figure out that you need to go AROUND it can beat Super Metroid, I'm pretty sure that almost anyone can. And I wasn't kidding about the wall bit; I don't do complex thinking well at ALL.

I'm thinking this is probably less of an 'epidemic' than it seems. After all, people won't be asking for help if they don't need it. :P

Still though, those guys need to learn to hack it through on their own. I didn't even play Super Metroid until well after Metroid Prime was out, but I didn't really have any trouble.

Well actually, I did have a bunch of trouble in one spot, but once I figured out what I needed to do I felt awesome.

I'm eagerly waiting the day when PSN, XBLA, Steam and GOG start producing dumbed down versions of classic games with updated HD graphics (+voice acting etc) for modern gamers.
How do u roll? Didn't read the begining control thing. any help?

I have no idea how they got stuck in some of those places. I think some of them are honestly just trolls in it for some cheap laughs.

But rather than being angry, I'm actually kinda glad. Glad that people who obviously aren't very experienced with games are getting to try Super Metroid for the first time. It's a timeless classic that everyone should pretty much get to experience. I hope they run with it once they get the hang of it. Or at least that they really enjoy however much they experience. And hey, thanks to Miiverse they can easily get help, rather than needing to refer to an online guide or buy a book.

Yeah, it's amusing and a little depressing to see such confusion from such simple spots. But we've all been new to something at some point, failing to grasp simple concepts can happen at times.

People who are more than likely experiencing the game (maybe even the Metroid series) for the first time and are asking for help and people's responses in the comment section are "Idiots" or "Kids these days" or "We were just smarter back in the day".

Am I supposed to laugh? 'Cause it's not funny.

The first time I played Super Metroid, years back, I forgot there was even a run button. I got stuck at the part where the green floor disappears under you unless you run across it super fast. I felt like a complete idiot when I re-discovered the run button.

The part where the giant worm is stuck in front of you in it's cocoon, and you can't blow it up, had me stuck for a little bit, too.

Super Metroid is not that hard of a game. I first beat it when I was 10 without any kind of outside help. But, I can see that if you don't have patience to explore and try things it might not be for you.

I think I know the spot you are talking about. I discovered that that could be done completely by accident. I can see how someone can get stuck there because there is no indication or hint, that I am aware of, that you can do that.
