recommend some super spooky movies

Post by Gooseberrysoda »

Hard to make a post like this without coming off as a childish "ooh, I don't scare easily" asshole, but man, I could use something to keep me up at night.

I've seen all of the mainstream stuff, all of Lynch, nearly everything based on a King novel (again, so not bragging), etc. but to date, I've only been truly scarred by The Amityville Horror (the original) and Twin Peaks. Canya recommend any (non-slasher, non-"large animal") movies to creep me out? Looking for surreal/obscure/foreign/vhs-only releases, stuff in that vein. This community has proven to have pretty great taste!

Outside of horror films, perhaps something like "On Holy Mountain" would fit the vibe you are going for?

I'm hesitant (I really don't care for radcliffe) but I might rent it sometime

I mean of course THE Holy Mountain (not "On"). Jodorwsky's work has become some of my favorite mind-fuck stuff in the past few years. El Topo is another one to check out as is Santa Sangre.

Tomie Unlimited is surreal, obscure, and foreign. It's not terrifying, but it's creepy and has a sick sense of humor.

Not calling it a good movie, but I thought it was really entertaining.
