We retro gamers are not alone, reaching the mainstream a bit

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

We retro gamers are not alone, reaching the mainstream a bit

I went to see a good friend today, we get together about once a month to play games all day. We did our holiday gift exchange and I got a couple of t-shirts from his family that really brought a smile to my face. Here's one of them:

The other shirt had a screen shot from Super Mario Bros.

A local department store called Kohl's. Their corporate stuff says they have 929 stores in 47 states in the US. I've never been to a Kohl's myself but I might have to stop in and see what other shirts they might have.

Typically, I hate that store after a bitter customer service issue I had last Christmas, but I might have to give a peek over there.

I never bought any of the Sega brand shirts or hats back in the day. Nowadays I see those apparel brochures they included in with the games at times and wish I'd have bought a few things. They really had some nice looking Sonic related apparel and some nice looking Sega Sports apparel too.

By the way, my friend's 11 year old mopped the floor with us both when we played a three-way deathmatch in Call To Duty 4 on X-Box 360. Cool game. We also played some Re-volt on my Dreamcast and had a blast. I bought that DC game based solely on a review of it here on Racketboy. Thanks for the tip!

I just noticed the topic title. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think Sonic represents anything old school or retro. Especially considering the Sonic games that have come out in the past few years. And I think Sonic was always mainstream.

Cool shirt though

I guess the shirt is a tribute to the older Sonic games, which is cool I guess

Mainstream?

Come on... mario, Contra, FF, Castlevania and several other franchises are supposedly 'retro' despite the fact they all have modern versions and also were very mainstream.

That's like saying Led Zeppelin and the Beatles doesn't bring Classic Rock to the the youth of today just because they were mainstream (which they are... come on, they were the boy bands of the 60's and 70's)

Gamestation and GAME do a lot of T-shirts like this in the UK. Gamestation flogged off a bunch of them for a fiver each recently, so I bagged myself a whole bunch of them, mostly Sonic ones but also a couple Mario ones. I live in these things XD
