ps2 one of the best systems ever

Post by mas »

During the last generation of consoles I always hated the ps2 due to the fact that when I first got one for Xmas when they were released the DVD went. Got another one and that craped out also. And the major reason it killed the dreamcast. I always was an xbox guy or dreamcast or GameCube. Fast forward 2012. Got one from a friend and a ton of games for free and I love this thing.
Over 3000 games, any freaking thing you can think of. I got component cables for it and games look fine to me. The system has arcade compilations, shmups, sega, a little nes and snes with megaman collections, racing, fighting, action, superheroes, rpgs, puzzle, and maybe the best wrestling games smackdown hctp and shut your mouth.
I wish I got into this 5 year's ago. But in a way I'm glad I waited because I am buying great games for seriously 1to 6 cents of eBay. How can you go wrong buying god of war for 6 cents complete.
Anyways I just wanted to say that for me its one of the best systems ever in my opinion and i hope there are others who think that the ps2 is a must have also in their collection.

Well, I think everyone knows this already.

Also, Add in the full PS1 library and you have plenty of games to last a lifetime.

And there's a TON of really great hidden gems that were released for the system! So check the PS2 Racketboy Guide and study up on which ones to look for. Because collecting for the PS2 is a lot of fun once you realize how amazing its library really was/or still is!

The PS2 is also a good choice for anime fans, especially if they're into fighting games, it's got tons of really good games based on popular franchises, and I believe it was the console that first had games that had really decent 3D dragonball games.

I have almost every RPG for both the PS1 and PS2...and yeah, the selection of games is enough to please anyone. It's kinda sad to see the way things have gone with the PS3 as the RPG department has been largely ignored (compared to what it was once, at least).

Yeah, huge variety of games there. It does help that it was supported for a decade, so plenty of time for lots of games to come out. And then you add the awesome PS1 game library to that because of the backwards compatibility, and you could games for years on end and be happy even if it the only console you owned.

That said, I still prefered a few of the original XBox's exclusives over the PS2's, and the bonus of it usually getting the best version of multiplatform games. It was my favorite last-gen. Not that it matters anymore, since both consoles are worth owning and are dirt-chep for the moment.

The PS2 suffered visually just as the PS3 did due to certain technical oversights, but the library more than made up for any technical shortcomings. Get HDLoader and you're pretty much guaranteed the biggest modern library of games. I'm fairly done with the PS2, but it was a pretty good investment while it lasted. Now if only they bring back Onimusha.

Oh and if you CFW your PS3 there's a huge chunk of PS2 games that can be played off that using Sony's own emulation routines, but since you already invested in component cables it's less trouble to stick with the PS2 itself.
