NBA Jam: TE, Save battery or EEPROM?

Post by codegamer »

Recently dug out most of my old games and systems from storage, and decided to play my all time favorite basketball game. (no joke)
NOTHING will save.

I'm looking to get the screw bit from racketboy store soon and replace all batteries in my carts soon, but noticed that NBA Jam has a different bit.
I tried looking for info online and replies seem mixed on it having a battery or EEPROM.

Could anybody here shed some light on this? I want to play my game again!

P.S. Air Dog FTW, nowhere else will you find a short white guy do massive dunks!

Has to be Sega Genesis because the screws on those carts are bigger than the ones for SNES/NES/Gameboy/N64/etc.

My copy of NBA Jam: T.E. for the SNES has a battery

Yes, Genesis, my bad. The screws on the cart (as with my other acclaim carts) are inverted and smaller than the standard genesis ones. And in the middle of the screw is a small 'pin' sticking out (I'll get a pic soon).

Just wondering if anyone has tinkered with one of these carts before.

I know what kind of screws you're talking about, and they ARE annoying. There's probably the proper bit for them, but I couldn't be bothered with that. IIRC, I was able to unscrew them using a small flat head screwdriver after breaking that center pin off.

Does it look something like the bit illustrated in the top-right in this pic?...

Yeah, it will be a security Torx like that. Seen a few GEN carts with those in them. One should always be prepared and have all the security bits.

The annoying ones are the EA carts. Not only do you have to try to pop off the yellow tab without breaking it, but some carts have some proprietary screws with 3 little notches around the outside.

I just slip the PCB in and out without removing the yellow tab.
