Help me spend my MS points

Post by RadarScope1 »

OK, so I got a card for 4000 Microsoft points ($50 worth) for Xmas. So I'm trying to decide what XBLA games to buy and I want to get some advice from the folks here with Live. I already have Pac-Man CE, Space Giraffe and Geometry Wars. I've already decided I'm going to get Marble Blast Ultra because it's just dropped to $5, there's 60 levels, and I really dig the demo. And I'm thinking about getting some of these:

Alien Hominid
Bomberman
Doom
Every Extra Extend Extreme
Gripshift
Lumines
Marathon
SWO Soccer
Switchball
TMNT
Worms

I'm probably going to pick two of these and save the rest because the REALLY good XBLA games are coming 08, like SF2 HD, Ikaruga, Rez, Castle Crashers, Braid and Omega Five.

I vaguely remember reading about Lumines being a rip off on live (that you had to spend more for all the "extras" that came by default in the other versions - but maybe I'm getting confused and it was another puzzle game.

About SWOS, I haven't played the live version (which I think is a remake, not a port, and probably not as good as the original in terms of gameplay?) - but you may just prefer emulating the original.

I agree that you should wait for the other games you really want - if you get 2 cheap(er) ones right now they should last until one of the others arrives and so on.

I second Boom Boom Rocket.

And get Lumines Live! If you don't have it on PSP.

I second Castlevania: SOTN if you've never played it. :D

Smash TV

not updated, but still alot of fun

worms is missing some of the cool weapons unfortunately, but the gameplay is as good as ever. doom and marathon are ok if your a FPS nostalgic type but I feel points can be spent better elsewhere. I got scared off Lumines by the angry reviews, but I havent ever played any other version... so i'm no help on that one.

Thanks for the input guys. I've got SOTN on PS1. I'm hesitant to buy a few of the older classics for two reasons - 1) I have a lot of them on comp discs, especially the Namco games and 2) I'm lucky to have a killer retro arcade a block from my apartment that has original cabs of stuff like Smash TV, Tempest, Dig Dug, Gauntlet, etc.

I want to get Alien Hominid because the money will go directly to Behemoth (well, after MS gets its cut). I could buy it used but they won't see a dime of it, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy to support an indie dev/publisher. Plus, it seems like a killer game even if its hard as hell.

Call me dumb but I really want to get Doom. The super-simple control scheme (no looking up and down) combined with the 360 pad is like a hot knife through butter. I've played that demo level a dozen times. Blasting pixelated demons with a double-barreled shotgun is just as satisfying now as it was back then.

I'm also interested in Bomberman because of the multiplayer, but I'm afraid it won't be any fun when it's just me around. Does any other RB forum member have this game?

So BBR is really that good? Guess I'll have to give the demo a try.

I'll get Marble Blast for now and see what I feel like later ...

I was actually going to suggest Alien Hominid. Aside from the awesome and hilarious main game, I remember the additional puzzle/platform game being long and addictive, assuming they kept that in the Xbox Live version

If Alien Hominid has the PDA game in it, buy that. It is silly and appears stupid for the first few goes, but when played with two or three friends its dynamic is amazing. The soundtrack is alot like Clutch Cargo's in design and will be stuck in your head for sometime.

But if you dont have Joust...
