Ecco spiritual successor by original team on KickStarter.
This is pretty interesting. Looks like the original Ecco team is looking to make a successor. The funding goal is a bit lofty but I'd really like to see this happen. I love Ecco, especially Tides of Time. However, I'm always a bit apprehensive of funding things on Kickstarter though. So we'll see how well this does.
Older. Not wiser.

That is a really lofty goal, I'm not sure they'll be able to hit that number. Ecco doesn't seem to have a fanbase rabid enough.
Still, hope it works out for them.

This sounds great... this really seems like a new era of retro revival with the new Duck Tales and all (plus the previous Kickstarters like Wasteland 2 and Broken Age)

New Spencer Nilsen music... is it funny I'm mostly excited for that? I'd love for him to use the same program/samples and such. 90's VGM was the best.

No. I'm hemming and hawing over my donation amount because I really want that limited edition soundtrack (in physical form), but... expensive.Xeogred wrote:New Spencer Nilsen music... is it funny I'm mostly excited for that?

I'm all for reviving older franchises I enjoyed as a kid, but I'm not so sure this one will make that cut. Ecco itself was an alright game, the soundtrack as others have mentioned is where it really shined. I don't think I have any real desire to revisit it so I'll sit this one out.
If it should beat the odds and get funded I'll keep and eye for it to prove me wrong and bring a great new experience to the table, which I would welcome.

So far it looks like this one might struggle a bit. I think it definitely needs a bit more exposure and coverage. Hopefully it happens.

Re: Ecco spiritual successor by original team on KickStarter
Oddly enough, I think this kickstarter would fair a lot better if the proposed game actually was a direct continuation of the 16-bit Ecco series. What they've outlined sounds interesting, but it's vague, and I'm worried (as Xeogred voiced) that it's not enough to capture interest. If the team just out and promised Ecco 3: The Somethings of Something Else, though, I think it would take off like mad.Raiiban wrote:I'm all for reviving older franchises I enjoyed as a kid, but I'm not so sure this one will make that cut.
I mean, I can't be the only one who's been waiting two decades to find out exactly what the heck happened at the end of The Tides of Time, right?
Guys?

When I heard there ecco team was getting together to make a game I was excited.
Now after seeing this, I'm not so sure. This clearly isn't Ecco, and they're clearly capitalizing on their status of being the people who made ecco. I'm sure that due to licensing issues they can't just make Ecco The Dolphin: Returns Again, but the game here as it's explained sounds kind of lame. And, of course, without Ecco slapped on it, it's not going to get all that funding it needs from Ecco fans, so we may never know.

It's got good ideas and the concepts/story would probably be amazing, but yeah as a game it does sound a bit far fetched. I liked reading the updates though, the creator has had this story in his mind for 20 some years now. For those of us who have managed to conquer and complete the old games, it's easy to say they're some of the weirdest games I've ever played, in a really good way... so yeah I hope it happens or the creator can somehow get a continuation of the story and stuff out in some form.
