Playing Thunder Force V

Post by TheRev »

Toiling away at Thunder Force V on Normal with Continues turned off.

I'm by no means a shmup expert and this isn't exactly the hardest game ever BUT, I can't seem to clear more than one stage. Is mastery of this game dependent on if one can get used to free range or not? Hunter is my weapon of choice.

Free Range is something of an ultimate weapon, if you are skilled enough with it. The dominance of Free Range has always bugged me about this otherwise awesome game, especially because it is the least viscerally pleasing weapon to use.

Hunter is fine, but suffers much the same problem most homing weapons do: weak as all hell.

Embrace the Free Range, that's where it's at.
