without going into details I decided to end my 2 year run of a Video game based Comedy show. Which, honestly wasn't even supposed to me funny. It just turned out that way. My humor isn't exactly for everyone either.
Anyways I'm thinking about what the next step is what do I do next I'm still going to do gaming but I'd like to encompass aspects from all geek culture. My cousin has wanted to work with me and he has better resources than I do.
So you guys are my focus group. What would you like to see in a new web based show centering around the Geek life. In my current concept I'd cover Games both new and Retro, Anime and Anime based products (including art books, toys ect) Comics and Film. While My cousin would do TV and Web and share comics and Film with me.
Sort of a Non corporate version of Attack of the Show.
So, shoot me some ideas.

Re: Kicking around ideas for a new webshow project
IMHO, Geeky stuff doesn't really fly these days. There's already too many geek-related sites and blogs out there, partly because "geeky" is such a broad swathe, and partly because the Internet actually made it very easy to seek out information about anything and everything under the sun. There's no longer any thrill associated with the hunt.
One way you can stand out from the rest is that you give it a certain twist and try to narrow down your list. The mary sue and Her geek guide did it by focusing on geeky things that would be interesting to women. I have no idea what other twist you can give it, though. Maybe a geek site for Christian singles or maybe a Geek site for black men with big black....uhh...eyebrows or something.
Another way is that instead of just regurgitating news, you make the presentation of news entertaining in itself. Do infographics or comic strips. Or try to incorporate your humor into your writing. Oldmanmurray.com did a lot of things to call out devs and other writers (including picking fights with John Romero, Jason Hall, Derek Smart, and several Salon writers), but the main reason why people flocked to their site back then was because Erik Wolpaw's posts are very funny.
You can also look at Tim Gerritsen's blog posts at the Double Fine website, particularly the early ones when he would go so far as post about his beards and do lengthy, multi-part updates about the rats in their crummy studio.

I don't really like the Geek centric stuff on line. Most presenters don't really have a unique personality. If you could say anything about me... UNIQUE is one.
Really that's what inspired me to try this, there's nothing really geek centric that appeals to me or has an identity of it's own.
Who do I like right now, AVGN (and who doesn't), Doug Walker (Nostalgia Critic), Happy Console Gamer, Ben Heck Classic Game Room...that's really it. I can't get into anything on Geek and Sundry. Girls that do geek stuff it seems REALLY forced like they're just doing it for attention. (hmm that could be a good idea too find a girl who is genuine about her geekdom)
Me just being me would be unique enough. But I'm REALLY out there. Personality is what's lacking from the geek related anything. I'm a complete nut job, unless you really know me then I'm pretty chill and quiet)

I like the idea, but if you want to make it more interesting, don't talk about the mainstream stuff that everyone else talks about. What you should do is focus on the overlooked, obscure stuff that's worth tracking down but most people haven't heard of. For example, Future Boy Conan for anime, Kiss Psycho Circus for comics or Night Slashers for videogames. If you show people something they haven't seen before elsewhere, it'll help generate discussion and page views. That's my two cents.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

GREAT IDEA, LOVE IT The Show I used to do focused on obscure games so I'm very familiar with Night Slashers and most of the Date East Library As a Shmupper I've played alot of obscure things, Possibly in the interim I might upload 20 min Game play videos of some of these obscure games. Anime, I like alot of old stuff like Project Ako, Dominion Tank Police, and Hokoto No Ken. One thing I was thinking of doing in my Anime Coverage was to show off and discuss art books which is a fringe side of collection I'd love to show off. As for Comics. I am a bit in the Main stream there The Most obscure I get is Sandman which isn't even that obscure.Retrodude wrote:I like the idea, but if you want to make it more interesting, don't talk about the mainstream stuff that everyone else talks about. I will definitely take your ideas into account
My Hope is that I can get the new show on Blip so I can get away with more You Tube has become Draconian with it's Copyright claims, and Content Matches. Sometimes even the wrong Tag can get you flagged as was the case with my old channel. So I really want to get my new project on Blip and with the right production values and people I think I can.

I know, right? It's gotten to the point where I'll judge a company based on how they treat their fans on Youtube. If they've realized that filesharing is here to stay and mostly allow their stuff to be shared freely (Disney, WB), then they're okay in my book and I still buy their stuff legitimately for the most part. On the other hand, if a company absolutely refuses to allow anything more that 20 second clips, and sometimes not even those, even on stuff that's never been available for legal purchase (Viacom, I'm looking at you), then I tend to want to pirate their stuff purely out of spite, or else purchase it used so the company won't get any of my money. That also applies to companies who put tons of unskippable commercials on things that are completely legal fair use that the company gets money for and the uploader doesn't (Lionsgate, Rockstar). As a potential customer, I don't appreciate that kind of abuse. If they want to discourage piracy, the first step is to stop acting like jerks.TheRev wrote:You Tube has become Draconian with it's Copyright claims, and Content Matches.

I kid, I kid. My biggest gripe with most videos are the uhs, likes and whatevers that the hosts stammer out. A modicum of professionalism goes a long way in making the viewer feel like you actually care about making a quality video. If you don't care, why should we?
Best of luck to you if you decide to go through with this project!

Fuji TV is on my shit list, for flagging a video of mine that had NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. If I ever go to Japan I'm leaving them the flaming bag of Poo on their door step.Retrodude wrote:I know, right? I started a new account the other day for this new project, I may re up that video with out the Tag that pissed them off purely out of spite with nothing but FUCK YOU FUJI TV tags.
And see Disney and Warnter Brothers I LOVE them just over all not just how they treat their fans but in their content over say Lionsgate or Viacom. I probably have more Blu Rays from Warner than any other non anime company.
But I digress, I want to be on Blip or Daily motion because I think I'd have more creative freedom there and not having to worry about being flagged. A website should put it's main content providers first and Copyright troll companies second.
