Kickstarter - Super 4 in 1 Multicart for the SNES

Post by FerretGamer »

I just saw this on my Facebook feed for Hyperkin.

The kickstarter for this just went live yesterday. Personally, I went for the $100 pledge since you essentially get the RetroN4 for $40 more shipped. They only need $10,500 to meet their goal and they are giving this 60 days so I think they have a good shot at this.

Information about the games

Super 4 in 1 Multicart is the name of our project and the name of the game to be released. The cartridge consists of 4 different games from 3 different developers; each with their own style and taste. We chose a Multicart to give the player the experience of a more complete game with hours play time .

Mazezam is a Puzzle Video game. The main goal of the game is help the character pass through different stages that are filled with obstacles. The player has to be very careful while moving the obstacles to not close down his path, because if he does, he would need to restart the stage with the cost of a life. The game gives the option to write a password and advanced to the last stage you play. Mazezam has over 50 Stage levels and each level is harder than the last one. Mazezam was the winner of the Neo Flash 2012 video game competition and it was featured in a Retro Video Game Magazine from the UK. The game has both French and English text.

UWOL - Quest for Money was originally developed by the Spanish Development team, Mojon Twins. UWOL was released for the ZX Spectrum Console and it has been ported to the SNES because it is a really fun game that resembles a lot the 80s and 90s arcades, and also it is "Nintendo hard". UWOL Features 55 Levels were the player needs to find money on a millionaire mansion that is haunted by our classic monsters. This game is also available for SEGA Genesis, but there is no intention of ever getting a cart release.

Skipp and Friends was developed by Mokunda Johnson for the PDRoms.com Video Game competition in 2009. He won first place for the game, but unfortunately the original winning game was not made to work on an actual console. After reaching out to Mukunda, he agreed to fix the game and get ti to work on the console. The game has been fully tested to run on the SNES and Supaboy. The object of the game is to move all three characters to the EXIT in each level. Each player has 2 limited special abilities that you may use to help advance through the level. The in-game status bar displays the name of each ability and how many times it can be used during that level. All three players must be alive and to the exit to complete the level. If you get yourself stuck, press START to pause and then SELECT to restart the level. After you complete each level a 4 letter password is given to you so that you may resume the game using the Password option at the title screen, after your system has been shut off.

N- WARP Daisakusen is a very simple game that captured lot of attention in 2008. The game consists on a 2-8 player free for all fighting game. The game supports the SNES Multitap to connect more than 2 controllers on the console. It is a great game for a party or a family gathering. The game was also featured on the Retro Magazine and other major websites like Kotaku. This game has never seen the light on a Cart Release, until now. The developer of N-Wrap has develop several other projects. His latest accomplishment is the port of the Super Road Blaster for the SNES a 512 Megabytes game, the biggest ever made for the SNES.

I'm most interested in N-Warp Daisakusen which looks like it would be fun with friends (supports 8 players!).

I hate to be that guy... but $10,000 seems like an awful lot for a run of homebrew carts...

I guess it depends on how much the materials cost and how much they're paying the manufacturer to do the job (unless they're doing the job themselves). It's why I've never complained about the high cost of flashcarts, because I know that most of them are made by either one person or a small group of people (which is why there can sometimes be weeks or even months between periods of availability) and the cost includes the materials, the time involved in putting them together and a bit of profit for the ones making them.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

I would be more interested in this if the games looked more...interesting? Fun? Polished? I love the idea of a SNES homebrew cart, but it's honestly a hard sell to me when I already own a SD2SNES. A full game along the lines of Pier Solar I'd be inclined to pay for (and did), but a kickstarter for what amounts to a repro, I'm not sold.

*TAKES DEEP BREATH* *PREPARES FLAME SHIELD*

I have no interest in indie/homebrew retro games for retro consoles.... i know i know, i should feel shameful and question why i even come to this forum...

This brings me to another thing, Pier Solar, why the fuck is this game so expensive and why are they limiting its run? if they want to make another Earthbound, they did, but i dont support it.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Video-Games-Con ... pier+solar

Im lost for words when i do a ebay search on this game, its just disgusting, fuck this game and the developers.

It's just a case of how many copies they're actually trying to run off. Most homebrew developers are lucky if they can sell maybe 25-50 copies of their game. $10,000 tells me they're being overly ambitious and trying to do a much larger run. Great for them if they manage to hit that goal and sell them, but yeah.

EDIT: derpy durp they met their goal after all. Cool for them!

They've done multiple print runs, and are actually getting ready to do another. Hell, you can go on their site right now and preorder a copy of the next run of genesis carts for much, much less than any of those ebay copies. The first run was a special one to reward the early adopters who supported them, but that's a bit different.

I don't think any homebrew game ever made for any system has as much demand as Pier Solar. Doing a run of carts large enough to meet that demand can't be cheap.

You should do your homework. They have done multiple reprints of this game, and are planning to do another. They are also rereleasing it in HD for multiple platforms. It was also available to pre-order for years prior to release.

I remember seeing this on Kickstarter and being interested at first because its a new SNES cart in 2013, but after seeing the games I was not too impressed. They could have done a lot better...
