What PS3 games need to be looked at?
Hey guys. Sony's making announcements about the PS4, which means it's time to start looking back at the PS3 and start thinking about what games really deserve to be sought after and played on it. What were the titles that you think gamers should seek and why? What genres were best represented?

Child of Eden
Ni no Kuni
Aquapazza
I would love to come up with a longer list but I am drawing a blank. Plus a lot of my favorite PS3 games were also available on the Xbox 360, including CoE.

I don't have a PS3, but I understand that some of our members are fans of a game called "3d Dot Game Heroes"...

Little Big Planet 1 & 2 for sure.

3D Dot Game Heroes for sure. As far as it's value going forward, it's an excellent game by Atlus, that sold poorly... you see where I'm going here.
As far as Zelda clones go, it has to be the best one I've ever seen or played. Hell, it even passes the game it mimics in quite a few areas.

Re: What PS3 games need to be looked at?
thatgamecompany has picked up the torch from Team Ico, and some could argue surpassed them. I'm not touching that debate though.
Journey - This is a very, very strong entry in the games as art debate. It's very rare that I play a game that genuinely feels like it took me on a spiritual, emotional journey. Not that I was crying tears, or experienced spiritual enlightened, but it definitely left an impression on me. This is definitely what I consider a one of a kind experience. Also one of the most fascinating uses of co-op gameplay I've ever seen
Flower - Though not quite as amazing, still a very special and unique game. The very last level makes the whole game worth it. It's a blissful, magical experience that few games can achieve
Heavy Rain - Some might call it overrated, but I thought this was a very interesting take on a PC style adventure game on console. It also did really interesting things with context sensitive controls and quick time events. Also, unlike the much lauded Walking Dead series, your choices in Heavy Rain actually DO matter, as well as your ability to react quickly and think on your feet. One mistake can take the story in an entirely new direction
RPGS
Valkyrie Chronicles - This is the most unique strategy rpg I've ever played and a good example of how to do that East meets West thing that Japan struggles with these days. It's like they took your typical, WWII based military shooter, and married it with a Sega style Japanese strategy rpg. On top of that, the game is polished more than most games I've ever played. It has a built in medal system to make up for the lack of official trophy support, and some of the most quality DLC I've ever seen. It's also one of the most beautiful games on the console with its amazing, watercolor, anime style and it tells a very touching story as well. Forgot Disgaea, FF Tactics, etc. This game is a new high for the genre IMO
Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 - People can hate on modern FF games all they want. I think these two games introduced one of the most exciting, fun, and cinematic combat systems in the genre. Both games also set a high watermark for how beautiful and artistic a game can look in this HD generation, especially on the most powerful HD console.
3D, Mascot Platformers
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time - I'm a firm believer that the Sly Cooper series is one of the best examples of quality, 3D, mascot platformers, and that sort of a game is rare today making Thieves in Time a very special game.
The Ratchet and Clank series - The one other 3d, mascot, platform series keeping the genre alive. The PS3 entries are stellar, with Tools of Destruction being the best one in my opinion, followed by Quest for Booty. Crack in Time got a little too big for its britches i. e. too ambitious, taking the series away from its roots a bit.

Demons soul's
One of my favorite rpgs of this gen and maybe of all time. The game does a great job of making you feel weak and helpless, that also comes from having an awesome atmosphere as well. Plus it sort off feels like an mmo with the help from other players and the invasions.
Heavy rain
It feels more like an interactive movie then a game mostly but it kept me on the edge of my seat almost the entire game.
Ack are you only trying to look at disc based games? If not I'll be the first to throw Journey out there.
It's been a long day so that's all I've got off the top of my head, I'm sure I'll have some more ideas when I get a nap or some coffee.

I assume you are mostly interested in exclusives?
-Killzone 2 and 3
-Resistance series (they each get better in the single-player department, with 3 being one of the best FPSs I have played)
-Uncharted 2 is probably my favorite game this gen. Uncharted 3 and the original are also worth looking at
-God of War III is excellent
-Wipeout HD + Fury
-Infamous series
-Motorstorm series
-PixelJunk games on PSN

Re: What PS3 games need to be looked at?
I suppose one can make mention of all the HD re-releases. This is really the first time in gaming history I've seen such a strong emphasis on DVD style double dipping. We've seen some HD re-releases on the 360 too, but the PS3 definitely had the most of them. While I don't like them as just cash grabs, releases like the Ico/Shadow of Colossus Collection are very notable, as this is the first time we got a complete, unchanged version of Ico in the US, AND the proper box art.
So I guess you can add the The Ico/SOTC collection to my list of must play PS3 games.
