I still think that's a ruse and they're going to activate that feature later after a few million people have bought the thing. However, if they actually are telling the truth and they're not going to do that, I don't think it would be out of line to say that they made that decision because of us. The gamers let their displeasure be known and Sony heard us loud and clear. Power to the people!

What on earth would the point of that be?

Well, if they tied games to a specific IP address in addition to a specific console, than anyone who had one couldn't even give theirs away for free because it would essentially be bricked for anyone else. You might think that would be a dumb move and you'd be right about that, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they tried.

I'd lean a lot more towards that their goal is to advance direct digital distribution to the point that the majority of consumers simply gravitate to that anyway.

They aren't making it download content in anticipation of you buying it, allowing you to stream full games, or letting you play digital copies via partial download because they're going to focus on physical copies.

I'm glad. I didn't think even Sony would be stupid enough to do this. As a retro gamer, It's impossible to even considering buying a console that I couldn't play used games on.

There's nothing to even suspect they would do any of these things.

Yes, they patented technology to tie discs to accounts - which is what sent everyone into a frenzy. And they have used this technology, too. When I bought the new Sly Cooper PS3 game (on disc) I had to login to my account and tie the disc to that account in order to download the free Vita version. This was done without redeem codes of any sort. However, after I did this I was free to sell the PS3 game and keep the Vita version. The next person can't download the Vita version now, but the game on the disc works fine.

Gamers are a paranoid bunch.

Uh... yeah? Has anyone ever suggested that the industry isn't slowly transitioning to full digital distribution?

In the mean time we get to continue to resell our physical games and buy them used. Yay.

Nobody who is thinking logically.

Point was more that Sony seems to be gearing up to convince consumers that direct digital is how they want their games delivered, rather than making that decision for them.
