Thoughts of Randomness

Post by dsheinem »

I think it would be fun to have a thread of random musings and disconnected ideas. What do you think?

I, for one, can't stand the idea of satire.

I don't believe in randomness. In chaos theory, a closed system will move to a specific end result. Slight variations in the beginning variables can produce wildly massive differences in the end result, but the same result will always result from the same variables. If the universe is a massive closed system, then all that has happened is only how it could have happened based on the specific arrangement of molecules at the beginning of the universe.

And that is why Ds dislikes satire.

The problem is at the quantum level the universe is non-deterministic.

As far as we know. That's the rub though, we don't know everything. The quantum level of the universe may operate on a set of rules we cannot comprehend, but if it operates on a set of rules, then it has to obey those rules.

The following statement is true. The preceding statement was false.

And yet there's no verifiable evidence that the non-deterministic particles ever translate over to the macro-level, despite that recent study showing a link between the shape of molecules and a substance's odor...
