Are people still collecting DVD's?

Post by winds »

Hey guys,
So I wasn't quite sure where to post this, figured this would be the only spot since my collection isn't for sale just yet.

Anyways, I used to collect DVDs back in the day (maybe 8 years or so ago). My collection isn't anything amazing, but seeing as how I don't collect them anymore and they're just taking up precious shelf space where my game collection could go, I want to get rid of them.

Now i've been out of the scene for a looong time so I don't even know if their are people collecting these anymore, or if they're worth anything. Is their still a market for DVD's?

If anyone is interested, I logged all the DVD's I am looking to get rid of and wrote up a list. Here it is:

I still buy up blu rays and DVDs of things that aren't likely to ever show up on blu ray (90s cartoons getting full season sets, etc.)

I think blu ray has made DVDs obsolete. However, not wanting to spends loads of cash re-purchasing most of my DVD stuff on blu ray, I keep them in my collection. And like you mention here, there's some stuff that will never make it to blu ray. So they still have some value I suppose

I mostly want blu-ray discs nowadays. But I still buy anime discs regularly - there are awesome deals to be had for anyone who doesn't mind diving into long-forgotten bargain bins.

I still maintain my DVD Aficianado list though. IF ANYONE IS CURIOUS, I OWN WAY TOO MUCH STUFF.
My real collection might be a little smaller, since I did sell some of my things a while ago and I'm not sure if I updated the list to reflect it.

I'm trying to stop buying DVDs and opt for the BluRay when available, however there are some things that I will still get on DVD, mainly anime or older TV shows that have little to no chance getting an HD re-release...at least outside of Japan. I wish I could get those Gundam and Lupin III BluRays! Why would they not put english subtitles on the disc as an option?? Bah they cost waaaaaay too much anyway.

Japanese media is insane price wise. I'd be surprised if those Gundam and Lupin blu rays didn't show up here eventually though.

I don't know how much things would be affected coming into the US from Canada, but...

Gundam maybe, but I doubt Lupin will. I mean Pioneer/Geneon never even finished releasing the series on DVD, nor has it been license rescued by anyone.

I mainly buy anime because I have little interest in TV shows or movies.

I always buy DVD, not Blu-ray. The only device I have that can run Blu-ray is my PS3 while I can watch DVDs on any computer and several game consoles.
