Purging files/programs from a PC?

Post by BoneSnapDeez »

A few months ago I was given an IBM ThinkPad with Windows 98, a floppy drive, and (surprisingly) a DVD drive.

I'd like to use this as a DOS gaming machine, basically.

Problem is, the computer is filled with shiz. Personal word documents and pictures scattered all about, tons of antivirus and "clean up your PC" bloatware crap, lots of random CD burning programs, and yes, a rather large and not-so-well-hidden porn collection.

I want all of this stuff outta here. Is there anything I can do that's quicker and more efficient than simply deleting and uninstalling everything? I'd like to "start fresh" with this PC, if possible. Reformatting the hard drive isn't really an option as I don't wanna track down a copy of Win 98.

If you're only doing DOS gaming why not just wipe it and put DOS on it?

What kind of ThinkPad?

For when I feel like it, I have a 385D for DOS/Wintel gaming. 200mhz Pentium 2, 32 megs of ram, and Windows 98 SE.

Reformat the drive and do a clean 98 SE install. That's your best option.

98 SE is easy to find, you don't have to "track down" a copy. Either buy a used copy (make sure it has the CD key or you will have to track down for) off eBay or download a copy of it.

If you want, I have a brand new copy of 98 (first edition) that I suppose I could sell. I don't think I'm ever gonna use it.
