There is Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth, and there is a jp-only Dezaemon release, which is a shmup-maker.

So... no. Strong on platformers, weak as hell on shmups.

If you are willing to import, Bangai-O might interest you. It's a multi-directional shooter, so if you want a more traditional vert or hort, it's not going to fit the bill. But you might like it. The N64 version also has some changes from the Dreamcast version but is Japan only, so keep that in mind.

Yeah I didn't think so. Just got a N64 again a couple weeks ago and kind of re-learning what games there are for N64

Have you checked out Goemon's Great Adventure or Mischief Makers?

I also really like Bomberman Hero, but that could be nostalgia talking.

Oh, and Jet Force Gemini! That game rocks.

None of those are shmups, though. The only other one I can think of is Space Invaders, but I'm not sure that can be classified as such. There's also Asteroids 64, Robotron 64, Star Fox 64, and Rogue Squadron, none of which are technically hori/verti shmups.

Obviously those are not shmups, that was just my response to his, "RE-learning what games there are for the N64" comment, since light had already been shed on the one shmup in the N64's library.

If you do end up importing Bangai-Oh, you may also like the other jp-exclusive Treasure game, Sin and Punishment. It is not a shmup, its a rail shooter like Star Fox, but its a pretty great game.

Only physically so. Adapters are cheap, though.
